Actually almost all varieties tested to date for pH have the same amount of acid so I'm not sure what you mean when you say sweet with some acid taste. Perhaps you mean more depth of taste, more complex than just sweet?

And I'm also a trong believer that folks should grow what interests them,you gave a list, in this case cherry tomatoes for you, b/c it's only you that can determine what you like b'c no two folks grow their plants the same way, use the same amendements, and have the same weather each season.

And lastly, taste is both perceptual and personal and there's even a human genetic component as well.

So while I may love Green Zebra Cherry b'c it's sweet and has a great taste, and I know some others feel the same way, there are others who will say, it didn't do well for me and I won't grow it again.

So we're all on a search to find what does best for each of us in order to find what works best for us.

And the more varieties you grow, the better able you are to compare what you've grown in the past with what your new ones are.

I'll look at the suggested varieties from someone who has grown 100's, yea thousands of varieties over someone who has grown 10 or 20 varieties just b'c they have grown and compared more varieties.

Just me own little opinion here. ( smile)

You will like Sunsugar. Though it has sugar in the name, it is not pure sweet flavor like Sungold. It has the tang you are looking for.

It is not the pH that matters to me; just what I perceive as taste. I really like camparis usually but some batches are just sweet tasting, not tomatoey and by tomatoey I mean I taste the acid. As I understand it, when they are like that it is not because of pH or low acid content, but rather that the sugar is so high that sugar is all you perceive when you taste it.

When the name of a tomato is super sweet or sun sugar, I presume that you taste mostly sugar and don't taste the acid. I would love to taste all of these varieties myself, but I have limited space so all I can do is ask for opinions and then try to figure out which varieties to pick.

This fall I am growing Sun Gold, but I want to try another cherry for the spring.
