Hi! Yay, first time I've ever been pinged on GW! Thanks! Yes, we are tall and have a lot of drawer so I did not want all the pulls in the center of each drawer. Because of that, they are all the same from the top, no matter the height of the drawer. Now, my pull has a very small metal surround where the pull meets the drawer - if if were bigger, I'd have moved them down a little, but as they are, they are 2" down to the center of the pull from the top of every drawer, regardless of size. The uniformity of that measurements gives it a clean look, I think, and I don't have to reach down to pull at the middle of low drawers. (That's especially handy on the pot drawers beneath the rangetop!) I also picked a pull that is longer than 3" (I can't stand having to shove my fingers in the small ones, nor can hubby) and stand out a little further than the usual pull for a nice clean grab. Here's a pic of the side with the most variation in drawer sizes (one vertical is our Super Susan cabinet in corner.) But in the second pic you can see that, as an overall design, I have three cabinets that are four-drawer banks that are visible from either side of the island and the closest to you on the side of the kitchen which I did intentionally to have a little bit of symmetry for your eyes. :) Last one below shows you what I mean by the metal being a small surround where it meets the drawer. That made the 2 to 2 1/4" possible.

I do have ilex verticillata and viburnums here; because I originally put the aronia in this particular spot, I don't think I can replace it with one of those because of the narrowness of the aronia versus the width of the others. Figures the one time I actually PLAN something, it doesn't really work out and now I have a narrow spot to fill! Thanks for the reminder on the mid-season visuals, Babs. I guess I never really noticed my fothergilla mid-season, so this is good to know. This bed does have roses, iris, daylilies, mums, geraniums - a good mix of perennials with something blooming all season, so hopefully that will distract. I do think, thanks to the input from everyone here, that I will put the fothergilla in this spot. I did so love my fothergilla in the fall, especially, so I think it will be appreciated in this spot. Well I kinda..um..have a historical line of mishaps that kinda um..aim at my head lol..starting with a kitten defending himself from my generous help to get off the roof when I was five(I had this scar for years after)..then breaking my nose during a fierce snowball game when I was 12(did someone here ever had a complicated plastic surgery, no anesthesia? they didn't waste anesthesia on me back then..just tied me with belts..if you had it-you know..very helpful for the future when you need to encourage yourself or something)..and then to the various motor vehicle accidents, including being hit by a van.. I wouldn't say it's earthquakes per se..)) I also don't sleep at night for all sorts of reasons but earthquakes. it's more like I'm a well informed optimist lol..chances being hit in the head being statistically slim and all..))) (we had this saying: "a pessimist is a well informed optimist, an optimist is a well instructed pessimist.".))

The OP's house has some small traditional features and it has a gable roof but its definitely not a Cape. A Cape always has a roof steep enough for a second story under the rafters with windows only in the gable ends. The entrance is always under the roof eave; a full cape has 2 windows each side of the door, a 3/4 cape has one on one side and two on the other, a half cape has a window each side of the door. You can drive for a mile through E. Oleans, MA and see very few houses that are not true capes. One story elements are sometimes added to the sides but rarely porches or dormers. Only a realtor would call the OP's house a cape. A Field Guide to American Houses classifies the OP's house as "Minimal Traditional" which is part of a larger category: "Modern" houses.
