White holes in hot peppers
Comments (16)Hey guys... sorry to helping bring up an old thread but this might help the culprits. This just happen to me recently on my 3rd round of pods off of 2 plants this year "2 1/2 lbs so far :P , btw off my 3 year old plants". Anyways I notice 8 peppers that way and the very last one i cut open to check it it was a cockroach inside of the pepper... go figure. so around the pot i been sprinkling balls of 1/2 borax + 1/2 sugar mixture then with enough water to make it to a thick paste "like dough i guess even tho not close..." to make little balls or little white pebbles. and so far many balls/pebbles gone no roaches. just a heads up of new pepper stealers :)...See Morecarolina chickadee abandon eggs
Comments (2)I've been lucky enough to "host" chickadees for the last 6 years. The first year it was a little war between the bluebirds and the chickadees. The bluebirds have always, w/o a single exception, used the back yard nest box. They already had five eggs and incubation had started when the chickadees started nest building in a front yard box. The bluebirds were having "none of that" and constantly harassed them by going in and out of the dee nest box. I was advised to add a 1 1/8 or 1 /14th inch hole reducer to keep the bluebirds OUT and I did and things were fine for both the bluebirds and the dees. I have bluebirds in the back yard right now and the dees have laid their third egg today in the front yard box. So far, the bluebirds are not bothering the dee box but if they do I'll add the reducer again. I agree with Elly, do no disturb that nest. It's possible the dees will return or that they have and you've just missed seeing them. While they do incubate every day it's possible they have not started incubating yet. Most times females do start incubation the day before, day of or day after the last egg is laid but not 100% of the time so it's premature to think they won't return. I would recommend that you add a reducer to keep the bluebirds out of the box. If, after that, the chickadees don't come back for a full week then I'd remove the nest and eggs and the reducer. But, be sure you've had a chance to look at the box for a full hour before assuming it's been abandoned....See MoreAbandoned eggs
Comments (0)Hello, I have had bluebirds in our boxes every year for 7 or 8 years now. I have one pair of bluebirds, that had laid 2 eggs....and then nothing until 2 weeks later, 4 more. But, she isn't sitting on them! It's been over 2 weeks now....They both stay around, as I feed mealworms, and appears to have a young bb from first brood. Can't figure out why she wouldn't go sit on them!...See MoreOT Abandoned robins eggs
Comments (14)I just watched that video...so interesting. I’m astonished by the fact that each hatchling will eat about 1,000 caterpillars in its first two weeks! No wonder it seemed like the only thing the mother Robin in the nest under my eaves did all day after her eggs hatched was fly in and out with more food, because that’s exactly what she did...constantly!...See Morelori239
