blackbird avoidance

Hello,

Has anyone figured out how to feed suet to clingers/woodpeckers in a way that keeps the starlings and grackles away? I am looking for a complete fix, and not having any luck.

Most recently, I added a 2" layer of wood pieces on the bottom of my upside down feeder (mesh bottomed suet box) and then another piece of wide wire mesh, hoping that they wouldn't be able to hold onto the 2nd layer of wire mesh 2" below the suet. However, they're doing it just fine. There has got to be a way to do this!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Ann
