Winterberry or Ilex verticillata This would appear on my top five shrub favorites list. It is incredibly adaptable, best berry production is in full sun but it can also take shade. They can also grow in the middle of a swamp or top of a hill, we commonly see them in the road banks and fence rows. It is highly decorative, the berries stay nice through the holiday season. The berries are great for the birds. When you buy them be sure to ask for female selection, chances are that you will have some wild males to pollinate them.

bugs usually dont cause disease ... it might be easier .. if you can tell us what beetles were hanging around.. this or last year??? did you have an onslaught of japanese beetles ??? .. if so, then there is your answer ... why are you surprised they are in the ground ... mother earth is not a barren plain ... there is a very active tomato forum ... just FYI ... BTW .. its fall ... its time to be thinking about getting rid of your maters ... not killing bugs.. your plants will get uglier.. and uglier.. until you decide.. you have seen enough ... lol .. also with declining sun.. and temps.. whats left of your crop.. will not be ripening ... at that point.. be done with them.. and turn the soil in your bed.. and hope the birds will come harvest these vile creatures ... ken

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean they were hunting, they were just gliding around in circles, very, very high, from what I have read, this is common behavior for red-tailed hawks around this time of year and has something to do with mating. I was able to get a good look with my binoculars and they were definitely hawks. They have been doing this lately, more so on sunny days, usually at least two, sometimes more, but that day there were more of them than I have ever seen! Very pretty!

Oh! Thanks, I've shown these to several people and everyone, like myself, has been stumped. I know nothing about falconry and training raptors so idk if it's normal that I didn't see anyone anywhere near when I saw this "hawk". No one around except for the other bird that's in a few of the photos, and a few smaller birds that looked to be mobbing either this bird or the other large bird, idk, I Wonder if this bird might have been lost??
