I had totally forgotten about Nature Net, believe it or not. . .things are busy around here. . .how is everyone? I only see a couple of names I recognize at the moment, but wanted to share a few of my more recent bird shots with you. . .

This next one, though blurry, has an interesting story . . . this raven and its mate were being harassed and chased by another pair of ravens. OFTEN, they would take up 'refuge' next to me on the trail. I watched as the other ravens would veer off, away from the human. . . then the pair that were on the ground would fly off again but the first pair would begin harassing them again. They finally began taking up 'refuge' behind a couple who were walking a dog along the cliffside trail. . .it was strange behavior to watch and made me think of Nevermore. . .those of you who remember Nevermore and her story - well, she loved dogs. . .anyway. . .the smaller of the two ravens seeking refuge would actually land closest to the dog. . .but the woman got scared and began shooing them off. Finally all four broke apart and the chase ended after about a good 45 minutes of intense action. March 11, 2009:

My special Canada Goose gander friend. . I've photographed him now each March and April for three years. . .he guards his mate who sits on a rock offshore. . .nesting. . .each year without fail, and each year, I have missed seeing the babies. . .I hope I don't miss them this year. . .!!!

Feather! I have not been here much either, but am so glad to see your pictures and words. I thought of Nevermore as you wrote about the ravens.

Exciting photos!
Still befriending Ravens, I see..I also immediately thought of Nevermore.

I'm still around; tried a few other birding sites but they were more for professional photographers to promote their work than for birders to discuss their latest finds.

Most of the seasoned birders left this forum because of photo copyright issues but novice birders flooded in to take their places. They've been quick studies-some purchased expensive camera equipment and took classes and are now amazing us with their photos.
Most photographers use photo web hosts and only post the html links, so the photos are protected by copyright law anyway.

A number of my photographs-in fact, whole albums-have been "borrowed" by friends and relatives in the past year without my knowledge or permission and posted on their own websites without acknowledgment. This is a potential problem for all photographers who post photos online, but photo web hosts protect the copyrights and Picasa 3 editing software even adds watermarks so photographers can object if they wish to pursue it.

Greetings is an awesome rose. It never stops flowering. The buds on it are absolutely unbelievable, there are so many. I only have 2 flowers open on it so far but will be sure to take pictures when more open. As far as I can see J&P offered Greetings for one year, which is when I got it and then it was gone. Replaced by GOOD N PLENTY, which I didn't feel I wanted. Royal Wedding is also a J&P rose, one of their versions of english style roses like their Golden Zest. LOUISE CLEMENTS is one of the John Clements intros from Heirloom Roses as is MEMORIES. Cool here too but it hasn't bothered the roses, going to be a great spring flush.

That is pretty, flyleft. I think the reasons it works are the very high ceiling, the continuing brick work on the wall surrounding the mantel, and the raised hearth. Although that vertical brick makes me wonder about maybe doing stone of some sort in a vertical brick pattern instead of the square limestone tiles. Too trendy perhaps?

I'll weigh in here as well. I use AOLwith Verizon wireless, which is quite slow. One of my pet peeves is an OP who load their initial posts with literally 30-50 pics of befores and afters. That's different from posts that gradulally acquire lots of pice because the long, multi-poster threads grow over time and usually some of the images are stored on my cache. But if you're an OP and think you need to display dozens of pictures, please park 'em on Photobucket so those of us with slower connections can have a hope of ever opening your thread. Because if the pages are too heavy they will time out before ever downloading. The other annoying thing I sometimes see is people with fancy cameras with high quality "heavy" images that the poster doesn't bother to take the trouble to lighten up before posting. Multiple images with 600-800K each can stop a thread from loading as easily as too many pics. There have been some popular threads that I have never been able to open at home simply because they are too picture-heavy. L.

Hey there, Frugaljon....welcome aboard. I wish to recommend to your pleasure a video on YouTube about the Hanging Hosta of Hampshire. Ever heard of them? I've watched the videos innumerable times, trying to note details of how they manage so many hosta, and what happens when winter comes, you know, just looking and dreaming. I link to one such video below. My hosta garden is 25 x 100 and is in coastal Alabama (near the Gulf of Mexico), and my zone is considered 9a or at best 8b. We have an undependable winter here, but we manage a few freezes and cold temps enough to make dormancy possible. Get ready to join the fun day after Christmas, when the Hosta Alphabet series begins. Re; Copyright issues and photos, well, I discovered that one of the best ways is to keep your highest resolution copies to yourself and ONLY put the low res online. That's worked for me. . .it makes it easier to show examples and when people want to buy them I can get high res copies for them, see? So when I make deals with certain venues for sales, I don't have to worry that the photo will be in other places, as after such sale, I delete it from the public format. :)

I will tell my mom hi, Alan, (she stays sooo busy lately and cannot be online as much as before)....and no, I don't hear from Joe, though I still send him church newsletters :)

Hi Feather and all,

I have been rarely here in the three last years. Lots of personal reasons. Anyway...I found the forum again and found it is still a human one, with its unique spirit.

As you can see I didn't improve my poor english.

You, you are now an accomplish photographer, I agree with the "painting" word attibuted to your pictures, many are piece of art. The sea in your pictures is just without words.

You are good also with internet thecnos. Tomorrow I will take time to watch your video.

Howdy, konrad, janie and luc! WOW, long time indeed!!!!

Konrad, I keep reading and hearing that about my shots, about them looking like paintings. Since I had to stop drawing due to the carpal tunnel, the camera has given me freer rein in getting what I see down better than any ink ever did . . . for me, that is. There's still a time or two when I will sit down to draw, and this summer I will be working on 'cartoonish' owls and the like for our church, but these will be larger than life :)

Janie- it has been quite some time. . .and it is good to be back here. I keep the browser open to this page and while I may not post every day, at least I can show up from time to time and share what I am seeing :)

Luc, well, your English seems good to me! :) I have been working on photography off and on since 2001, when I acquired my first digital camera after years of working, again, off and on, with SLR. Joe in SW NH rekindled something in me that way when he was shooting photos everywhere he went while here visiting with me in October and part of November of 2000, and at one point during our visit, he let me use his camera to capture a couple of shots of Harlequin Ducks. I still have his shot of Nevermore gracing my wall. . .I miss him. . .I miss Nevermore, but think I know that she's the bird I keep running in to at MacKerricher State Park. . .

Glad your RWBB's and Grackles are back. Power's flickering, gotta run,
