Karen there is still hope

There have been swarming bugs flying over my pond all day, if they are at my pond I assume they are at the lake too. I will go check the lake after dinner.

Blues visited their partial nest today, didn't see any building.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!!! Just got back from the lake and while I did not see many flying bugs from the shore, I saw several dozen TRES fly over me then back again a few minutes later. They are alive! Gonna have some wind and rain but the warmer weather will bring the bugs out. I think they will be ok!

Told ya so lisa!!! They know what to do to stay safe and alive. It's always dicey thing for the Swallows when they return. I do know that they often take a big hit with cold and wet weather that keeps them from being able to feed. I am so happy that you are seeing them. I adore my TRES. They can be naughty, but they are so much fun!!~Angie

Hi Bill, I'm glad to hear that my cuttings are looking okay. I will cut off the inflo on the cutting with the two flowers (Celadine). The one behind it (Yellow Twirl), the claws are wrapped around the inflo quite tightly. I don't want to damage the claws. Thanks for all the help you have given me. Hi Karen B., I sure like the color of that Paul Weissch. The yellow is so rich. I can see that some of your cuttings do have leaves growing. They must like something that you're doing. Thanks to you too for all of your help. Hi daviddurant, An inflo (inflorescence) is the flowering part of the plant which usually forms the flower cluster. The main stem that the inflo is attached to I believe is called the peduncle. This I learned from Jim Little's book, "Growing Plumerias in Hawaii". Someone with a lot more experience in these plants will have to help you with your "cuttings" question. Happy growing to all of you, Rick

I think that blooming can be very stressful, for a plumeria with no roots. I had one (Confetti) that bloomed with very few roots, this past spring. The first few flowers were normal size, then the rest started opening much smaller. I felt that it was working too hard, so I cut the inflo off. I guess the flowering takes more energy then the plant can provide. I've heard that some will die, after that first rootless flowering. Anyway... it does sound like you have taken good, sound steps to get the roots started. Heat at the roots is key. Just give it one watering at potting time, and don't give in to the temptation to water it again until it has put out a few full leaves. If it starts to get cold by that window, you may need to get a heat mat. Good luck, Bob

Usually if its red that means its coming back and will turn green in strips or mottled. If it had been black or ash gray especially tips, then that part was dead. I've grown blueberries for 5 years in pots out in cold and snow on cement patio no covering. They are very slow to turn sometimes when they come out of hibernation. From brown stems that on another plant would look dead, they turn red and can even flower before finishing the change to green. I had some red branches with pinkish blue flowers this year before branch became green and flowers white. I now have bushes covered with massive clusters of plump berries that will take sometimes up to 2 months to ripen. Hope you didn't throw away yet, still a chance to put in a pot on the side? 14in size is fine for it.

I think you nailed it with the tall marigold because it looks just like what I grew there in prior years. I tried to buy seeds a few weeks ago but everywhere was sold out of marigolds! I had to settle for the 6 inch kind. This is what I wanted.
