first bluebird egg

This morning I checked the nestbox and Momma Blue has laid her first egg. This is particularly exciting for me because I have never had the Blues nest here before. I've had them build nests and then abandon them, but never lay an egg. I immediately went out to attach the Mylar to the spooker frame and the darned frame broke. I had to unscrew the spooker post and bring it in to fix it. The Blues were getting very concerned about my coming and going from their box and I was so afraid I would scare them off. However, they are now going in and out of the box. What a relief. Shortly after that a small flock of HOSP showed up and were in a group apparently eating something on the lawn. Does anyone have any idea what they could have been eating? Do they eat grass seed? I didn't put any down, but I'm sure the grass seeds itself. I sure don't want to attract them here, and at this point they seem to have moved on. I am so glad I checked that nest this morning and got that spooker up.
