redpoll identification please

I was wildly excited today when I saw a common redpoll at my nyjer seed feeder for the first time in my life. Later in the day, I thought I saw her again, but she looked much lighter and her head looked a bit fluffier to me. I was on the phone at the time, but grabbed the camera and quickly took a shot, one handed, through the window. What do you experienced birders think? Are these two different kinds of redpolls or did I somehow get lucky and see a common and a hoary on the same day?

Good for you!.. yes, these are two females common,...hoary would have more white, really hard to say, not sure why
they make two species out of then when you can hardly see any differance.

This is my best hoary shot, [male] but I don't know if it's hoary LOL....the white and short beak kind of makes them be a hoary, but who knows?

Hi Esther, No offset on mine yet. I am hoping it will make one this summer. There is a small plant in the pot too, but it is a completely separate plant. This one will keep making more leaves for years and eventually trail . It would be good in a hanging basket. It needs to be out of the way though, I don't want to bump into it!

Dyphylleia cymosa,(Umbrella Leaf) or Diphylleia grayii, (Skeleton Flower). Native to the Southeastern U.S. D. grayii, Skelton flower has white petals that turn transluscent when they get wet. Barberry family, Berberidaceae, yes related to Podophyllum. It could also be the Asian Diphylleia sinensis, since you seem to grow a lot of exotics? I wish I could grow it. I especially like the fact that the flowers are above the umbrellas, and not hidden undernesth like Podophylum. Much easier to photograph. DIPHCYM DYPHGRA https://www.jstor.org/stable/43782133

Look like a hoary for me too Konrad. Like you I wonder why they made two species. Some experts ever told me they lived in different places.

Darwin is interesting to read on it.

Thank you so much Rachel and Konrad. This has just been so wildly exciting for me. So I know I have had visits from at least two female Common Redpolls, since one is lighter than the other. What a gift! Konrad, your photo is just fabulous. It really helps me to see the difference. I have one that was lighter than the other, but not nearly as white as the one in your photo. Thanks so much for your help.
