WELL, about 20 years ago i had just moved to a place in September and worked up a bed to plant about 150 garlic plants. In the spring I went on a week vacation and when I came back, all I had left were about 50, and deer prints everywhere. I asked my garlic mentor if she had ever heard of a deer eating garlic. She said they might take a nibble, but that is all, and will leave it alone. I told her there were like 100 plants eaten. She, who is about the most peaceful person I know looked at me and said----Fill your freezer, I would get it killed---- I have never had that problem again and know it was some crazy/, probably less than year old, taste bud lacking deer....but, you can bet your bippy that I have never allowed my garlic to be anywhere but in a fenced area since then......back then it was not fenced because, well because DEER DON'T EAT GARLIC------EXCEPT THE PSYCHO ONES......ergo, i say fence it

I don't think it's an issue melrose. I have a fenced yard, and my BB box is inside that yard. I also have 2 little dogs who are often out in the yard. Additionally, between all of the neighbors who border my property, there are 13 more dogs!! The Blues just carry on as if they never notice. :o)

Suzy, we have a Moen faucet; finish is called Classic Stainless. We chose Moen for the quality per our plumber's recommendation. According to him, there is a big quality difference in the products carried at the big box stores vs the ones he can get. Ours has lifetime replacement (ones from big box stores do not) and there was only a slight difference in price. There's a picture of our faucet in the thread called, 'Dreams DO come true'. We have daylight color light bulbs in the ceiling along soft white & bright white in the pendants shining down onto the faucet. I'm picky too, but with color and light.

I think one of the things that makes rose gardening so addictive is the fleeting and intermittent positive reinforcement we get from it (referring to an older behaviorist theory from B.F. Skinner in the 50's). Theory in layman's terms: "when we know to expect the reward after taking a certain action, we tend to work less for it. Yet when the timing of the reward or the certainty that we’ll get it at all is unpredictable, we tend to repeat that behavior with even more enthusiasm, in hope for the end result." With all the work we do on our roses, we never know which days one or more blooms, or bushes will be PERFECTION, versus the next - covered in bugs, fried from heat, dead from freeze, blown from wind. But striving for - that perfectly formed bloom (for a day!), or the orchestration of a bush where it looks like someone actually coordinated its' blooms hoping the sun will stay in place long enough to capture in a photo - which never seems to replicate the beauty our eyes actually see, or that delectable fragrance that inevitably diminishes with subsequent sniffs, not allowing us to actually "capture" that ecstasy for more than a moment. It is THESE moments we garden for. Thats why we bother!
