good day to visit Lowes

Since it's supposed to hit 105 today, I thought I'd stop by Lowes to see what they're doing with their plants in this weather. Sure enough, they were busy loading up 6 of those huge racks. The nursery manager knows me by now and asked if I wanted the same deal as last time. It was mostly lantana, plumbago, portulaca, sad looking rudbeckia and a few mixed salvias, so I was thinking of just skipping it. Then she pulled some Russian sages out of somewhere, added them to the best cart and said she'd do $15 lol! So here I am again trying to unload plants on my neighbors. I pulled about 30 perennials and the Russian sages for myself, but the rest needs to go.

Anyway, just thought I'd share in case you're near a Lowes today. Hope everyone who has the energy or lack of sense to get out in this heat gets a great deal!

My goodness, you sure are busy! I bet your property looks gorgeous! Do you have any pictures posted anywhere?

The front, sides and half of the back look gorgeous, but most of this stuff is going into the other half of the back. I just evicted most of the kid stuff, including the gigantic fort they never use, so it's go-time back there. Once it grows in and the mosquitos disappear, we're going to want to live back there.

Does anyone in the Dallas area need lantana? I've got way too much lemon cream and peach, and you're welcome to take some. I might make you take a portulaca hanging basket, too :-)

I'm glad to know you enjoyed the photos! Thanks so much for replying. Joey, the plant in question was in a recently planted pot so Linaria "Fairy Bouquet" it is. One internet source listed it as an alpine plant, so I'm guessing it's one, like pansy and snap dragon that will make it through San Antonio's comparitively mild winters.

I would like to know where this Lowe's is! I go to the one on Forest in Dallas and have found a few things marked down but never hit the jackpot like you have lately. I bought some white lantana and a few phlox today for a dollar each. I am also in the process of relandscaping a house I bought last year. I have removed all the overgrown shrubs from the 70's and am replacing them with perennials and roses. It's nice to hit lowes when they mark them down!

I have been hitting the one at Jupiter and NW Hwy and the one in Mesquite.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I will try the one on Jupiter, Mesquite is a little far for me. The one at Forest is pretty close, about a month ago I missed the 1.00 roses by minutes! People were loading them up as I was walking in.

You missed deals when I was at the Jupiter one today. I couldn't fit everything I bought in the van since I had all the kids with me, so I grabbed a few people as they were leaving and told them to take all they wanted and enjoy.

It's supposed to be 102 here tomorrow. Does Lowes do this type of thing regularly? Does someone need to ask? I don't really know what I'd do with more plants in this heat, but I could always baby them in the shade until next week when we're supposed to get a little rain.

These 2 stores dump plants when it gets hot or as soon as they stop looking perfectly pretty and full of blooms. I haven't had problems planting in the heat, but I almost bury them in mulch.
