blues vs. sparrows

Ann

hello,

I know many of you dispose of sparrows, but I just don't see myself doing that.

Last year, the blues successfully chased off sparrows anytime they came near their house. But over the past 2 weeks, the blues were in & out of one of my 3 houses, then one day I realized it had been taken over by a sparrow. Are the blues less aggressive in defending the box if there are no eggs yet?

I didn't know what to do, so I stuck a big stick in the doorway. Short of trapping & killing sparrows, does anyone have any suggestions? At what point is it a foregone conclusion that the blues are nesting elsewhere? This breaks my heart...that's why I have 3 boxes! : (

The blues won't go through a sparrow spooker to make a nest, will they?

Thanks,

Ann
