bluebirds set on nesting in bad place

Our house is across a narrow lane from a meadow where the farmer has used a few wooden posts to attach the wire fence that runs along the field. These posts are very old and one has a hollowed out area about a foot deep.

Last year, a pair laid eggs in there and when I went to check it one day all four eggs had been poked with a hole and the BBs abandoned the nest.

Now the BBs are back and seem extremely interested in this same post! Didn't they learn that's a bad place? Anything could get in there -- it's completely open on top! What should I do?
