Ugh! What to do when bad advice is given in a magazine??

So in the current issue of Birds and Blooms magazine, some bad advice is given...this is what it says next to a beautiful picture of a male and female bluebird on a nestbox..info is something someone sent it and they printed it....

~We've always had a terrible time keeping bluebird nests because of the

sparrows. We've tried everything to get rid of them, but nothing worked. Then

someone told us to drill a 2 inch hole in the top of the bluebird house. They

said sparrows don't like the light, but it doesn't bother the bluebirds. It

worked! Within a week, the sparrows were gone and the bluebirds were building a

nest. I hope this helps others who are having the same problem.~

I couldn't believe such bad advice was actually printed! I am scared people are

going to try this and set their blues up to wet nests and possibly dead

nestlings not to mention the fact that Starlings could now get into the box.

Someone on the birds and blooms facebook page asked for more info on where to

put the hole and I responded that it was a bad idea and not to do it. I told

them to check out sialis.org for information on sparrow spookers.

What are your thoughts on this???
