can/should I dethatch, fertilize, aerate, in deep summer?

I have a zoysia lawn, and for the most part the grass is beautiful. However, lately I'm noticing that large areas seem to be browning up . . . looking "dusty" is the best way I can describe it. It's not brown patch--no dead patches or rings--but I do notice dried-out straw-colored blades mixed in with healthy green blades. We've had tons of rain here in Austin, so I also know that these areas aren't needing more water.

Anyway, after a bunch of research, I think that perhaps I need to dethatch and aerate and lay down some good compost. I've treated smaller problem areas this way, and they look great right now, so I'm thinking that the whole lawn needs some major "renewal."However, will all of this be too stressful to do during the hottest months of the year? I've heard that major fertilizing should occur during months when plants are stressed. Should I wait til fall or next spring, or does it not really matter?

Thanks for any suggestions!

J
