Time's up, Sally!!! Get out there and put a big ole "whooping" on those weeds --- you can do it !!!!

You know how it goes Sally, one more cup turns into two. It starts getting hot, might as well do lunch, its even hotter, you decide a cold margarita before you go will cool you down so you can start... a pitcher later, the weeds aren't looking so bad after all.

Oh well, maybe next weekend! ;)

Sally2, water the night before.. get up REAL EARLY --limit yourself to one cup of coffee and wear your pjs out there. You'll get it done fast so you can get back inside before the neighbors start heading to work!

I've found those coil things you can wear on your ankle or your wrist (I do both) work great for keeping the bugs off me. So does lighting a citronella torch (or several placed all over the yard) really does make a difference! I've found them to be much better than the candles.

I've figured that if I go out and pull weeds now, they will be back by fall and I'll have to do it again to get the fall garden looking spiffy, so I'm just waiting till it gets cooler. Besides, from a distance, they add a nice touch of green. Don't they? Or am I rationalizing again???

Approach #1: Go, Sally!, Go Sally!, Go, Sally!....... hmmm. Dit it work? If it didn't:

Approach #2: Ok, Sally, it's about fricking time you do your d... chores. Get your lazy a.. up and do what you gotta do!

Let us know which approach was more effective.

LOL! I hear ya. I just mowed down some perenials and am going to put in flowering shrubs. My perenials were totally covered in (bleep!) Bermuda grass.
Raised beds are the only way in this garden!!! PJ

I have the same problem if it's not one thing it's another around here. I did do some work in the yard yesterday but if I look around I know there's more weeds to be pulled and I need to start working on my new daylily bed soon very soon because before I know it fall will be here and I'll have to plant heel them in for winter till spring and I really don't won't to do that might slow the bloom time.
Today I kicked the dog's outside to clean house and have been dreading letting them back inside. Bo is so bad about shedding I have to clean the floors everyday. Lacy doesn't mind going outside she'll just go swimming but Bo is a big baby, Oh brother....why did I spoil my fur babies LOL
Plus I have to take a pain pill just to be able to do any work at all. I'm hoping to get into therapy for my back and see how it goes I've heard of good thing's.
Oh I've got to get out there to water some plants and not wanting to get out in the heat yet.

Sally, don't make me say this twice you better have done the work you were talking about today, LOL

This thread made me laugh -- for the last two weeks when it was raining and relatively cool and it would have been nice to work in the yard (easy to pull weeds in the rain, even if the neighbors do think you're a little strange)I've been in bed recovering from back surgery (large herniated disk, probably from picking up a 60+lb dog!)and although I'm still limited to only lifting things under 5lbs I could do some weeding..... and it's just too HOT and I think I donated about 3 gallons of blood in the 5 minutes I was out there this evening. I'm thinking the weeds might win this year.

Oh, thank you, thank you, y'all have given me courage. Boy, I've been lazy and I didn't have nearly as good an excuse as many of y'all.

I didn't get back here yesterday because I was so busy all day long. I actually did set one section of my yard as a goal to get weeded, but of course I had g.a.d.d. (gardener's attention deficit disorder). Saturday was DS's birthday. He lives in Denton, so we were scheduled to head up there Sunday afternoon to pick him up and bring him home (he doesn't have a car) so we could celebrate his birthday and he could spend the night. So, when I left my computer yesterday, I actually started on housework instead of weeding. Well, his sheets needed washing, and the guest bathroom needed cleaning and... Well, I actually did get outside and weed that garden, and almost got finished before I had to quit. But before, during and after weeding, I decided to fertilize my tomato plants, break open some web worm nests, spray the yard with garlic to control mosquitoes (yes, it did actually work for a little while) But the deadline loomed. I still had to go buy DS's present, go grocery shopping and I still had to bake his cake and yada yada yada. This is the story of procrastination! At least I had a productive day. I saved all that work for one day, and boy was I tired last night. Tired but satisfied. :-)

Now, I have to do some stuff this morning, but I hope to get out there today and get the weeds I pulled yesterday up off the yard so that DH can mow. I've got fall veggie seeds to sow, and oh, so much work to do!

Okay, I just got home from all my errands about 30 minutes ago, am finishing up lunch, and am about to get out and get to work....NOT! There's no way I'm heading out there now to do the work. It'll have to wait. I'm not worried, I know it'll still be there when I get to it. LOL

Just call me JD, it's too hot, there are too many mosquitoes, the weeds just grow back, bermuda grass can climb into the raised beds, there is tequilla to drink, the dogs need a bath.....

Do what I do, plant more stuff, pretty soon there will be NO room for weeds, it's working in some beds!

Barb, I thought Bo was on the couch downstairs! That bum! For a short-haired dog he sure sheds a lot, and he has fleas right now, I'm really dreading giving him a bath, it's such a battle.
