Help! Something is eating my new veggies

When I was watering my veggies this evening I noticed all the new green bean leaves have little tiny holes in them. I suspect they are aphids, but don't really know. Maybe someone else has the answer?

Also, something is eating the tops of the new plants.

Have you noticed any snails? I started getting them a couple years ago and didn't think anything about it, BUT since then I see on line they are what is eating all my plants and flowers and the stuff I buy to kill them isn't putting a dent in them. If anyone knows how to get rid of these horrible pests (besides getting the enemy of them which is another type of snail which will eventually also eat plants) please let me know. At this point I am picking them off the plants and stepping on them to kill them, but there are so many it is impossible to get them all.

I haven't seen any snails, but I did see some orange beetles the other day on my watermelon plants so I zapped them with Ortho Max. I did get some neem oil at the seed store for the veggies when they start bearing. I am very surprised how well everything is doing considering we have had 100+ degrees weather for the past week. Water, water, water every day.

I think it is slugs. I have seen this happen in my garden, and I second the idea of going out at night with a flashlight. Small slugs don't always leave visible trails. Birds are also a possibility. Sluggo should help with slugs/snails (and is available in an organic version). Netting will help with the birds. I now always sprinkle sluggo around seedlings, and cover all my beds with netting until the seedlings get a little bigger. I use 4x8 foot raised beds, and have netting tents that sit right on top of them.

Leafcutter bees seem like a good possibility, but have you done a nighttime flashlight inspection? I ask because I've been noticing significant damage on new growth, as well, and the culprit turned out to be Asiatic Garden Beetles. They're similar to Japanese beetles, but they're only active at night. Had I not been in the habit of making the occasional nighttime sweep to see what might be out and about, I never would have known that I had them.

Four Season gardening is about growing in the "off" season, usually in greenhouses or other kinds of cover. You'll have better luck getting an answer in the vegetable forum. It's hard to recommend a pesticide without knowing what kind of pest you have. You should look the plants over carefully, look under the leaves and even on the soil. If the stems are cut through near ground level its probably cut worm. Garden weevil will eat holes in the leaves. Night time is the right time to check for these critters
