Tricks for damping off-- Air circulation -- maybe set up a small fan Bottom water --- set packs in a tub of water that has about an inch or so of water for about 15 minutes when watering Don't over water -- let top of soil dry out before watering(more people kill seedlings from over watering than under watering 3% hydrogen peroxide -- spray the soil surface Chamomile tea -- drink a cup, and then use the used tea bag to make another cup -- spray on soil cinnamon -- sprinkle a little on soil...this helps keep the fungus gnats away. Don't get discouraged. I had quite a bout with damping off and peppers. Keep asking questions. It's the cheapest way to learn. Kevin By the way -- you learned already. Keep the shoplights about that distance from the top of the plants. Just right above them without touching. :)

Leaves will droop if the plants (dracaenas) need water. The older leaves turn yellow an come off easily when over-watered. They will also come off with age, but if it happening a lot, it is too much water.

I think you do need a light there, both for the light and asthetics, but it shouldn't pull attention away from the chandelier, it should just look like it belongs in the space. Personally, I think it needs more than a can light. agree above. that alcove looks like a closet where the door was removed. Either close it off and move the piano agasint that spot (drywall over it) or, do some open shelving or a built in bookcase/cabinet of some sort. are you in love w/the shutters? why not remove them and do some simple blinds? If the glare is that bad, get some super simiple roller shades and pull them down (behind the shutters) when viewing. these windows are on the other wall, but same idea. either solar shades or cellulars if you must keep the shutters. the rest, position like this very similar to what your windows and space looks like. an idea of the far end wall
