Bobbi, if I remember correctly, they are a little flat. I don't usually start mine in the ground -- I start them in pots. They are SO pretty ! Give it a go, they should still come up just fine !

This cool vine comes up every year in my rose garden. I didn't plant it, so don't know what the seeds look like. But it'll grow just fine coming up through your hibiscus or whatever else it comes up next to! Mine actually usually show up growing through sweet olive shrubs.

I bought one from Marthas bloomers last year and loved it. Tried to overwinter it but it didn't make it. Mine never made seeds though.

I save some seeds of this annual vine every year and they do resemble tiny dark brown lentils, flattish, with a slight indentation on one side like a bean. They usually come up on their own once the ground gets really warm so saving seeds is just insurance.
Even when started late, they've bloomed by August - last year they were still blooming in November along with the tropical milkweed and Mexican Mint Marigold. It sure seems worth a try!

Thanks Annie. I did go ahead and plant them a couple of days ago after soaking them for 24 hours in water. We've had nice rain showers the past 2 days too, so I hope that helps them along.

I collected the seed because I'd kept mine in a pot with and obelisk the past 2 years. It was just too hard for me to keep it moist enough though, so in the ground they go this year. I'll let them go to seed, assuming I get early enough blooms!
