Crunchy leaf diagnosis needed!

I have a many plants infected with *something* and I'm looking for a diagnosis.

Background:

- About 30 plants of 20 varities (cherries, plums, earlies, beefsteaks, red, pink, yellow, etc)

- All are caged

- All are watered with soaker hoses

- All are planted in the ground under landscaping fabric

- All were started from seed

-Half got one dose of Miracle Grow, the other half got one dose of Fish Emulsion

Symptoms:

A few weeks ago, I noticed "white specks" all over the plants which turned out to be white flies. The strange thing is that I never saw any of them move. They all looked dead, or at least motionless. At this time the plants all looked healty, so I didn't do anything about them.

Now I've noticed that some of the interior leaves have dried up and turned brown. They are still hanging on the plant in roughly the same place where they were when they were healthy. If I grab the brown leaves, they are crunchy and they crumble in my hands.

The outer leaves look green and healthy (but are still speckeled with dead (?) white flies.

Does anyone have any theories as to what's going on here?

Should I do anything?

Thanks!

Bart
