laceysue, I see you just joined GW in April of this year. I'm one of many who has been here for over 10 years and lots of folks post about Tomatillos here and I think it's just fine.

After all, Tomatillos, being in the genus Physalis, are in the Family Solanaceae as are tomatoes and yes, also potatoes and eggplant, etc. but I think it's fine to post here about tomatillos. ( smile)

John, tomatillos are self infertile but since you do have two plants that overcomes that so I also think that patience is called for.

I know that most of my friends in south FL don't attempt to grow tomatoes in the summer, just a Spring and Fall crop, but I don't know how the pollen of tomatillos stands up to the high sustained heat and humidity of a S FL summer b'c tomato pollen doesn't do well at all. it's either destroyed by sustained high heat or clumped by high humidity making it non effective.

Just one question - you get banned for mentioning some other sites??? I would never have thought of that - are these rules written somewhere, so I can make sure I don't violate them by accident?

The line that reads no advertising in any of the Forums has also been interpreted here as no advertising other message sites.

I can confirm that with admin here, and I do think it's still in effect b'c some will write some short hand words to indicate another site, so actually I don't think there's any need to confrim it.

And I know first hand that if you send a message to someone off GW that the software will not let it send.

Several months ago I was sending a link to someone for a place to buy certain tomato seeds and it wouldn't send and I couldn't understand why, b'c usually there's no problem referring to a place to buy seeds or gardening items.

So I contacted admin to find out why it didn't send and got a nice response saying that the site I referred to was on their list of companies that had spammed GW, which of course I wouldn't have known about.

So most of us who have been here a while know enough not to link to other message sites or refer to them in a post.

Do I know of anyone who has been banned b'c they did refer to other message sites in a post? Yes I do.

I wish it wasn't that way and at other sites where I read/post it isn't that way, but what is, is.

MAybe I will confirm it just b'c there have been several changes of ownership since Spike sold GW and maybe something has changed? I don't know for sure, but don't think so.

I also have 2 tomatillas in. I have the purple kind - and I just love their funky flowers!

they are just starting to fruitset, but they were planted maybe in april, kept in their pots too long as I was waiting for a fence then the beds to get built. They've been in their homes now about a month and took off great after the transplant.

Mine started flowering probably about 2 months ago. So maybe give it a few weeks....

Also - I didn't notice right away as the papery outter sheath can be mistaken for a dried flower and you can't see the fruitbud so easily.

John, for the most part the posts made here at GW are laid back and there is good interaction between folks, but sometimes, and this is one example, there can be someone who does a post or two that doesn't quite fit in.

I read and often post at four different message sites and all are different.

Different in terms of the types of questions asked, the expertise of those who often do post at the site and how individual members interact with each other.

So it's a matter of finding a message site where you think you are most comfortable and the folks there do have some answers that might help you and if the Jerry Springer site is a place you feel more positive about of course that's where you should go.

And there's nothing wrong with reading/posting at several sites to take advantage of what each site might offer that meets your needs.

Also, to OP. In my experience, tomatillos do take longer than advertised to set fruit. Of course my tomatillos always get shredded with three-lined potato beetles (aka poop grubs) in late June so I guess that could set them back too.
