Possible leaf disease on PL plant?

Can I get some help with diagnosing this disorder - found it on one of my PL version of Red Brandywine...so far I haven't seen it on any other plants, except possibly the other PL RB which has a lot of flea beetle damage so I can't say for sure if that one has it also.

The brown area starts out as brown flecks, or speckles, scattered around the leaf which soon become more concentrated to make a bigger brown area like the one shown in the pic.

Maybe some type of canker? I did notice that these PL plants seem to attract more flea beetles, which could transmit a disease.

Thanks for any help ID'ing this disorder. I am considering pulling both RB plants because 1) of the potential disease, 2) low fruit set, and 3) flea beetles attack the fruit more than any other.

Looks environmental. What's the weather been doing lately?

Weather has been anywhere from nice to hot, but no rain in the past couple weeks. Also this plant is near a dryer vent exhaust. When the plants are young, the leaves come out distorted from the air pollution caused by the dryer, but they seem to outgrow it when the plants get bigger.

I'm glad to hear it sounds environmental. Got any more specific ideas so I can try and combat it? Thanks

I hate to be the naysayer, but other than that leaf tip, your plant looks awfully happy. I agree that if it fertilizer burn or something of that sort, you'd think you'd see it on more than one leaf. Then again, if you had a disease or something, you'd think that might be more than the tip of one leaf as well. I'd consider lopping much more of that leaf off, if it concerns you. That's a pretty big sized plant - personally I wouldn't worry about saving one leaf if you think that leaf has something funky going on.

Good general advice, and I thank both of you. I build compost and have been doing so since I was a kid, some 30+ years ago. I'm attracted to the leaf mold for a particular purpose: amending the soild under the dripline of my trees and shrubs. I'll continue to use my regular compost for my veggies. In our region, there is a problem with anthracnose (did I spell it right?) in fruit trees. Now I do have my doubts that much if any fruit-tree leaves would be in this huge leaf pile, though you never know. But in an area such as ours where anthracnose is active in fruit trees, I wonder if other broadleaf trees may also carry it. (?) That's what prompted my question, really. Joel

Although I've often thought about planting peonies, I never have done so, so I'm afraid I can't help with the blight question. You seem to be having trouble posting your photos though. I might be able to help you with that. The url to your web album that shows your 4 pictures is http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/578192480GvkIsB and people can click on each thumbnail to see full sized photos. The code that you would use to make a photo appear within your message in this forum is as follows but with the all the spaces (except the space between img and src) removed and the url of the photo in place of XXXXX. However when I tried it out in the preview function with the url to your first photo, it does not appear. I think the web hosting site you are using will not permit posting photos on other websites using their band width. Thus I think you are limited to posting links to your web albums. I hope this helps. Sorry I'm no help with the peony disease.

They are Acmena Smithii, Im located in Brisbane, Australia. The powder doent wipe off, there are no indication of any bugs on the underside. We have had quite a hot summer and even leading in to Autumn, so if this is what sun burnt plants look like, then there is a very good chance thats what it is. By 'new' i mean they have only been in for a few months, I put them in at around the middle of spring as seedlings.

Well, the problem seemed to be getting worse, and the upper new foliage was affected as well. The adjacent plant of the same variety showed no symptoms, nor did any of the other surrounding plants.

I also noticed that the plant was the smallest; might have been stunted by the affliction. I didn't want to risk letting potential disease spread, so I pulled the plant. Wasn't getting much fruit from it other than a flea-beetle-eaten baby that wasn't worth keeping.

Now my cucumbers can venture up the empty stake. Those Spacemaster cukes are getting bigger than I expected!
