Surveying my losses

Everything around here is up (that oughta be up), so I took a walk around my gardens to see what didn't make it through the winter. I thought with all the snow cover we got, that everything would be well insulated - no freeze-thaw heaving out of the ground anyway. But I'm wondering if the long, cold, wet Spring had something to do with my losses.

There were a lot of disappointments:

Jupiter's Beard (two of them in different locations.)

Mums (My fault for not mulching them!)

LOTS of Heuchera (coral bells - what a bummer!)

A variegated Wiegela

Remote Wood Fern and Tassle Fern

Dianthus Double Spotty

Coreopsis 'American Dream' (not surprised at that one)

Rugosa Rose (that surprised me!)

Geum, 'Blazing Sunset'

All of the above plants except the mums have been in my gardens for at two-three years, so they were well established. I wonder if some of them just rotted from the exceptional amount of rain & cold we had in early Spring.

What do all of you think?

What were some of your losses?

Julie
