I had one open on mine today too!! Its my first one. Hubby knows I've been all excited waiting for them to open and he noticed it before I did!

I've been telling him how neat looking they are and when he pointed it out I ran over to it and turned it so I could see it better.

He actually got out of his chair and came to get a closer look and said, wow.. that is a cool looking flower!

I almost fainted. He's always said he doesn't like flowers.
But this year he's singing a different tune. :)

So? How long do the blooms last? Will they continue putting out flowers all summer? HUH? HUH?

I've been killing these things for so long I'm just over joyed to finally get to see flowers!

Well, my flowers usually only last one day - but I've been averaging about 1 -2 every other day so far! May not be typical results...this is my first one to have.

My passion flowers normally bloom all summer long as long as I keep the butterflies away from them.
I have several plants which have over wintered for 4 years now... but each summer around the 4th of July the butterfly caterpillars munch nearly every leaf off the plants. The plants respond well to this and grow back with a vengeance.

I doubt I'll be able to keep the butterflies away. They're already starting to flutter around it. I've planted a bunch of morning glories on the same trellis to try to fill it in for when the cats do their thing.

Next house I'll try to plant several, and keep one for the cats, moving them when they show up.

I've never had a passion vine yet, but a former neighbor gave me one of her blooms floating in clear glass bowl and it lasted for almost a week!

HeHe, Melvalena, your DH is doing the same thing mine did.

Never gardened, never cared, as long as he could get the mower in to cut the grass. That, and the pecan trees- both are "man things".

Then came 'The Change'. Now, he gardens big time, has his own pepper garden, trades, buys, sells, seeds by the hundreds (or maybe more), grows the hottest peppers in the world, and some that are very unusual- also very pretty.

He tends roses, digs all the big holes for me, advises me on siting plants, and sows seeds of all kinds in the most surprising places. ("Is that a pepper I spy in my rose garden?") But is is usually variegated and very pretty, whatever it is. The only thing he doesn't do is pull weeds, unless it is in the pepper bed.

It is a lovely change, all things considered. We enjoy the gardens, and it is a relief that he now knows what a lot of things are and how to deal with them.

RoundUp is no longer his best friend.
