Comments (16)Sugar Tyme has been on the market for at least 30 years and is no more susceptible to disease pathogens now than it was when first introduced :-) And that is the entire point of introducing disease resistant cultivars of any plant. And I have no idea what climate has to do with this issue. The climate in all manner of other areas of the US is different from yours and yet countless other gardeners are able to grow these same plants without issue. And even those in similar southeastern locations/climates seem to be able to grow them. You make it sound like if you have issues in your garden, then everyone else will as well and that is just not borne out by the reality. btw, the North Carolina extension service lists flowering crabapples among their recommended small to intermediate trees for NC landscapes. What might they know that you don't????...See MoreDonald Wyman Crab Flowering
Comments (3)The tree is established, but still young. I’d be inclined to give it a few more years before making a decision. I’ve got a couple of white flowering crabs growing at the woodland edge that are quite stunning when in flower, but fade into the edge when not. Could you live with that? What are your options as you see them?...See MoreNeed help with flowering crab apple
Comments (3)the tree is past its prime.. and as noted.. an old non disease resistant variety ... imo.. nothing worth saving here ... you will spend more in one year of spraying.. than a new disease resistant variety will cost ... not to mention exposing yourself to the spray .. or if you hire it out.. crikey will that be money down the drain ... have it cut flush to the ground.. apply stump killer.. and plant a new tree off to the side where you can dig a hole... this time of year.. is not the best planting time.. so plant in fall or winter.. or spring if you cant find stock available ... [it might depend on where you are...] if you can buy one now.. it might be best to hold it over until the next proper time ... see link ken https://sites.google.com/site/tnarboretum/Home/planting-a-tree-or-shrub...See Morekevin_5
