Lowes has $.25 plants at the RIM

I bought 5 trays of plants, That should keep me busy while I am in Rockport for the next week. I will retire tomrrow and will go down and stay the week, until I get my bearings. I am very sad that I am leaving after 44 years. LOL. I plan to learn how to use my camera so I can post pictures on the forum. I just need to replace my Plumeria, and 7 palm trees, looks like everything else is coming back but real slow. Barbra,

Congratulations on your retirement Barbra! You were there for a long time and now it's time for you to kick back and pursue your hobbies and do whatever you feel like doing!

austinnhanasmom, you can double the garden by growing tomatoes and peppers, even cucumbers up side down. If you can imagine a clothes line installed with a pipe instead of a rope... and then hang your plants above other plants. One of the best thing about upside down plants, you pretty much have no worries about slugs... and all the veggies are off the ground, no brown sides on the cukes! AND no tomato cages or support for the cukes! No worries about ammending the soil for new garden either, you won't take up half your lawn either... Re Lowe's - I had an interesting talk one day with the garden manager at my Lowe's. She explained that each Lowe's allows their managers to decide which plants to buy and what to put on discount. In addition, Lowe's buys the plants outright as opposed to HD which only pays the growers for the plants that sell in the store.. This explains why usually only the newest plants at HD look good, as they have no incentive to care for them - they just return them - seems odd, but I guess if you're a big box store, you can get what you want. This is why, if I'm going to buy at a chain, it will be Lowe's because they do have the incentive to care for what they've bought. Does this make sense? hey tl, Actually I should take the responsibility for the prices. You see, when lowes called me up and asked for pricing advice I told them 9.98 for the boxwood. Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy. We're sending you a free bundle of callery pear seedlings as a token of our gratitude.

Low rim height toilets?

I would see a tall ADA toilet for a taller person or with an orthopedic problem, but otherwise I also prefer that standard height enlongated. My feet dont rest on the floor normally with the tall toilet and im not even that short. I am average height. And enlongated over round for sure (also a requirement in commercial for sanitary reasons). A good grab bar will help for people with problems getting on and off the toilet. A booster seat can help as well if needed and the toilet doesnt need completely replaced. Old 3.5 gpf toilets are a good choice to be replaced for what suits you. My gripe is that they have like 15 different tall height versions and like 4 standard height versions. Not everyone likes the tall height and the standard height choices are limited.

Barbra,

Are you sure your plumeria is dead? I just kept cutting mine back a little at a time until I hit white wood. So far, I think I've lost only one small one out front. The 4 out back made it through the freezes and are coming back looking pretty good.

Congratulation Barbra! You can garden full time now and be busier than ever.

It's all in the timing for Lowe's plant clearance. I was there on Tues and they didn't have anything on sale worth mentioning. Meanwhile DH was at the Austin Hwy location and brought home some great stuff.

You are so right about Lowe's .......... I seldom find anything of interest on sale in the one nearest me, but hit the Jackpot yesterday ...........you just NEVER know !!!
