Picked and ate my first Granny Smith today

Boy, was I excited! I've been watching them slowly turn from bright green to a pale greenish yellow, and today I couldn't stand it any more. Faced with the possibility of a psyllid infestation, I figured I'd better at least pick ONE.

I ate the first bite raw, and it was sort of sweet - sweeter than I imagined - but without much flavor, and not much acid either. It really didn't taste like a tomato.

The rest of the tomato, I sliced and fried up, and those pieces were even sweeter, and really did taste a bit like a very mild flavored sauteed apple slice. I found the whole thing a bit odd, but I was still totally excited to have eaten my first "big" tomato. I wish I'd taken pictures of it. I can't believe I forgot!
