Let me start off by saying that I have had all the confidence in these SWC's. But now I'm having serious doubts. All my tomatoes in my SWC's are coming down with serious BER. The only plant not to show any BER in the SWC is Lime Green Salad. Maybe ther are some varieties that do better than others in the SWC's. Couple of things I'm going to change on my SWC's next year are, 1) making the wicking chamber twice as small as it is right now, which is 5" deep by about 6" in diameter. I think that the wicking chamber is providing waaaayyyyyy too much water for the plant. 2) Seal of around the top of the aireation bench some how. Maybe with some old towels or something. 3) Maybe adding some lime for an extra source of calcium would probably be a good idea. Although my organic fertilizer has plenty, or so I thought.
So now I open the floor for you SWC people.
