Our daylily group has taken a new direction with our beloved Marea in the Captains seat. Hopefully we can have fun with monthly trades and newsy news from our members again.

This month we are joining a swap that Marea is in charge of.

Send a fun grab bag of 3 special small surprises to your partner by Sept 30th.

1 ~ Your first surprise can have ANYTHING to do with gardening, like a packet of delphinum seed, a lily bulb, a daylily, a cool used issue of a gardening magazine, artwork, handmade cards or jelly labels, a paint pen etc.

2 ~ Your second surprise should be a plant/bulb/seeds off your partner's wish list.

3 ~ The last surprise is up to you. It should be something that your partner will love.

4 ~ There will be a prize awarded for the box that is least expensive AND contains the most surprising 3 items. White elephants are encouraged.

OK!He He! Ha! Ha! It's here and that mailman was on time. ===================Good thing for him.

Here is what my pkg. revealed.

Heuchera - Ebony & Ivory - nice clump and so healthy +++++++++++looking.

Daylily - Purple cignet - Carol is that the same as Cygnet ============Purple?

Astilbe - Red fanal

Paper Weight - pink trumpet vine decor.

Miriam, yes it is cignet purple, glad you liked your box. there were only 3 things, the rock was to hold the plants in place. 3 items only is one of the hardest boxes I have ever had to pack. hope they grow like mad for you. hope to get you again when I can send more. hugs carol

Good Morning all! I see it has changed some since I was last here! Hurray! Come on out the rest of you! It doesn't have to be a big box, just a little token of friendship and celebrating coming spring, which I think everyone is so ready for!! Sorry, I haven't been on much. My grandson is down with the flu! Not sure if it is a 48 hr. thing or if he should start getting better today! Just in time for me to get, as we are suppose to go to Springdale for my granddaughter's 13th birthday party Saturday! And I certainly don't want to miss it! She's my only girl and she is a girly girl!! Oh Lord! Mareas-so glad things are going better for you! I would love to see where you live! I bet it is very gorgeous there! Welcome to the little swap! Please stop in and post whenever you can! And everyone else also! Sharon-wonderful for you to join! (and everyone else also!) I know what you mean about peeking at your seeds every morning! I have broccoli, brussel sprouts, peppers, tomatoes, ornamental peppers, and other items, besides my flowers are waiting to pop up. I now have 6 lemon meyer seedlings about an inch tall! I peek at them several times daily!! For those of you who would join if was a little later-just send a little yard ornament or trinket and nice note with an IOU for a plant when they come up! It's not about what we get, just the fun in knowing someone is thinking of you and cares enough to send a little something! Here's some Iris that I don't have names for. If any of you do, I would appreciate knowing. This has a smaller than normal bloom although the scapes are the height of any TBI. This is not the true color of this iris. It is a deep rust red and it's scapes/blooms are just over the leaves.Making it much shorter than the TBI..I don't know much about Iris but I know this type must have it's own name...is it a Standard? a Border? any one want to guess what it is? This is a TBI and in the next picture you can see it's true color on the far right of the photo. I have no idea what this is but since many of my iris came from you, maybe someone will recognize it. This is a photo of the 3 unknowns above showing a more accurate depiction of their color and height in relation to each other. Debbie

You really lucked out Paul. Nice stuff! Those can't be current pics of your yard, are they? I thought you lived in WA or OR and had some frost by now. So, I'm juust a tad jealous if you can see that now! You know the one draw back with my elph camera is I frequently get the icon telling me my camera is shaking. Even if holding it very still. The high wind causes problems with focusing but they might make a similar model with some type of stabilizing feature to minimize this. I take many out of focus pics. The 2 below are examples as they were taken on horseback and the first with 12 X magnification as I was far away. Marea, Since you asked for a horse pic I went out in 39 degree weather for the first ride in a while. Shiloh was too full of energy and naughty. Here is the corn harvest here. Don't be fooled by the small size of these blue wagons. They are really big- 3 will fill a semi truck full of corn. and here if my hubby having the time of his life! If he wasn't so tired he might smile more. The combine is quite large also if you are standing up next to it. So- anyway- this should counts as a horse picture! BTW Marea, The lily garden idea with semps sounds groovy! You are the semp queen! I just found a photo/ art web place called redbubble.com. Some lovely and some weird art there. A warm bubble bath sounds dreamy right about now... Karen

DAYLILY SEED GIVE AWAY GAME

Here are the rules to the game:

I have grown plants from some of Sharon's seeds and she does a good job with her combinations. So I am glad I get to be the first to guess...

I have no idea, but I think you don't like daylilies named after people...for instance...Debbie Smith.

I didn't think it was that easy of a question. Hmmmm, maybe I complain about it more than I thought. LOL

Go ahead and choose 3 daylily packets.
There are anywhere from approx. 3 to 10 seeds in each packet. Takes too much time to count and post the number.

LOL! I was gonna give a hint, but I guess Sharon DOES make her feelings about "Bobby, debbie, matilda" etc quite clear!
Of course, I find I'm doing the very same thing, but with a little twist: Gloria's Angel, Traveling Carmen, Snazzy Memories...
Then there's Bridey's Baby, Blue-eyed Huck, I better start using crayon colors or something.
Speaking of colors, Cindy Dye spoke at my daylily meeting yesterday & show slides of her & her husband's introductions - eye-popping colors!!
Was a great presentation from a charming & funny lady from Shirley's part of the woods, check out her website!

He said, when he saw the name, he knew that was the one he had to send, he liked the name that much. smile! That you liked the names so much makes it even more special to me. Now, if it blooms next year, I'll just have to make a few seeds with it's pollen. lol

I love it that you sent me Vegetable Garden Markers!
While I don't have a vegetable garden now (I throw a few veg. plants into the flower gardens), I just told my hubby, "In these hard financhial times, whether we move or not, I'm going to plant a vegetable garden next year."
AND these are not small markers, they are big and tall ... people from the street will know what I'm growing in that garden!
Paul did you make them?

He also sent very nice Green Garden gloves... love them.
And he sent us Payday candy bars ... 2 bags full!
Paul, my hubby is on weight watchers also, but I have to confess that we do cheat once in a while. So we will have a Payday every so often, that is if we can get one before our 17 yr old son.

Hi Sharon,
So glad you liked the box. Yes, I made the garden markers... took a lot longer than I thought it would... LOL. I put a water seal on it, so it should last in the garden. Good luck with your vegetables. If you decide not to use it, feel free to pass it on.

How Beautiful Heaven Must Be... just so inspirational. Gives me hope for this life :).

That's OK Sharon - I may look on here one day and find that I am a winner, and it will have no tear jerking second line, but if it does; I will keep trying. And there is always next year.

I've been gone to my sisters since Friday and didn't know I had won the daylily seeds. I am sooooo happy. Sharon's crosses are really pretty.

I had a really hard time choosing and finally had to just give up and just narrow the choices down and just do eenie meenie minnie mo....This is my final choice....

I got Shirley's box in the mail today and was it ever fantastic. She sent:
