Can a small plant bear TOO much fruit?

Ok... I know it was only a few weeks ago that I was lamenting the lack of fruit production on my plants, after a very cool wet spring here in LA. Well now things are taking off again, and one of my smaller plants, Goose Creek, has about 8 fruits on a relatively small plant, about 2 feet high. Can such a small plant handle that many fruits, or will it inhibit future growth of the plant? Is there any particular type of feeding I should use to encourage more plant growth, while it is fruiting?
