I live in 'skunk central', where people give directions to their houses by the number of road-kill skunks - "Take a left on road 21, drive four dead skunks, my house is on the left". Skunks can reek to high heaven w/o having anything bothering them at the moment - I always figured they'd sprayed at something some time previously, and just had the waxy stink stuff on their fur. They are also a creature of specific habits, so they'll follow a similar path .... going along the fence line here, then headed over to the vegetable garden there, then along the side of the house under the bedroom window which wakes us all up from the stench, then along to the side of the pond, etc. When they start coming around the house on a regular basis, I put a single moth ball every 10 feet along the base of the house - of course, you don't put any right near an open window. They won't come near it. I've read, but haven't tried it, that hot pepper works as well - I suppose spraying a bit with one of those key-chain, personal protection capsicum sprays or spurting a bit using a can of bear spray would do the trick. I've also read - but not tried - that ammonia in a dish will work- seems reasonable. Any thing that messes with their sense of smell should work - they're basically after grubs and earth worms, using their noses and, I suppose, ears. Look around your compost bin, and see if there is any shallow holes were they've dug up worms. Good luck. We had one earlier that came by the bedroom window about an hour after we went to bed, and the smell from that one would peel paint.

I've only been doing this for 4-5 months, so I'm no expert, but here goes: 1. The bin will not smell like rotting food so long as you don't overfeed the worms. That will be a trial and error process based on how many worms you have, the environment, including temperature and humidity, and how quickly the food you provide breaks down into something the worms can eat. Generally, the smaller the particles, the more quickly the worms will eat it. The bin may emit a strong earthy smell; this is apparently normal, the smell being caused by a fungus that helps to break down the bedding more quickly. I have also found that damp cardboard also emits a strong smell. Neither smell is unpleasant, but it can be strong at times. Finally, any leachate, which is the liquid that collects in the bottom of the bin (I assume you have some sort of catch basin, since you said you got a tower model) can stink to high heaven if you let it collect for too long. This smell is caused by anaerobic bacteria, since there is insufficient oxygen for aerobic bacteria. The solution here is 1. to try to keep the bin from becoming too wet (The decomposition process creates H20, so even without adding water, the bin may become too damp) 2. add fresh dry bedding occasionally to the bottom of the bin to absorb any leachate and 3. drain the catchbasin on a regular basis. Please note: Many sources call the leachate "worm tea". This is incorrect. Worm tea is created by soaking vermicast/vermicompost in water. Leachate is bacteria laden waste from the bin. The two are not the same thing. I don't believe using leachate in your garden will harm anything, it just won't have any beneficial effects. 2. If the environment is suitable for the worms, they will not try to escape. However, this is easier said than done. I'd recommend leaving a light burning over the bin, at least until the worms feel more at home. Worms don't like light, and will stay in the nice dark bin instead, even if the surroundings aren't entirely to their liking. 3. If you overfeed the bin, it may attract flies, since the flies will be attracted to the rotting food. Fruit flies, no-see-ums, and mites can be added to the bin along with any fruit you add. To mitigate adding unwanted critters, either microwave or freeze any fruit before adding it to the bin. Note however, that not all flies are created equal. Black soldier fly larva are generally a welcome addition to the bin, because they break down both food and bedding very quickly. Maggots also serve this function, but who wants maggots in their bin? All you old-timers out there, how'd I do?

cloud swift, that's EXACTLY what I'm using! 3" btwn mounting screws, but actual pull is about 4 3/4" or so. Watch out...one listing on ebay has the smaller model number but larger dimensions. They're actually selling the smaller ones. I was cursing myself for committing to such expensive ones (the one I bought retail was about $20 with tax!), but figured that they would hopefully last longer. So I searched online and found ah turf, which had them for about $13.xx each, no tax, just shipping. Crazy name, but they are a B&M store, so I figured it was much safer than some of these fly-by-night internet companies. Sure enough, they arrived in good time, and no problems with the shipment. to make up for it, I got cheapie knobs from ebay, at $1 each. I did want the ones that were 1 1/2" across, as opposed to the usual 1 1/4" diameter ones, to match the larger handle of the cup pulls, and had to search a little to find them. they match pretty well, slightly more bronze showing through, but not enough to be an issue.

There is no recycle bin on Chrome OS! Chromebook is a cloud device that presumably you store your stuffs on the internet(using Google drive). By using Google drive(app with triangle shape icon), you will certainly find recycle bin.
