No berries on my Coral Honeysuckle?

I have a 2 years old Coral Honeysuckle (Lonicera Sempervirens "Magnifica") and even though I have had a lot of flowers, I have never seen a single berry. The flowers usually last 1 or 2 days, then they fall off and the stem dries out. Is there anything I am doing wrong?

I also noticed that the plant has not shot as many new branches as it did last year. Could it be because I did not prune it back last winter?

I live in Aliso Viejo, California...if that matters :)

Your Coral Honeysuckle needs another variety to cross-pollinate to produce berries.

Next year, pinch the new shoots off to encourage new branches. Keep pinching the vine.
It will "fill out" instead of growing in straight line.
SOmeone on this forum once posted a link to vine shaping and pruning, but I don't have it anymore.
I also have the vine that you have. I didn't know that they got berries.
I am going to get another variety next spring, so we'll see if it has berries.

They are very hardy once you get them going. I like to get them planted in the ground as soon as possible after they root even if the location is temporary. I find the survival rate is much better than if I keep them in pots. If the plants are still very small and the root systems not well developed, plant pot and all in the ground, mulch well and cover with a gallon nusery pot when it goes dormant for winter. (I have to put a brick on top of the pot to keep it from blowing away) You probably get more winter weather than I do, so your plant is likely to go completely dormant in winter. Snow will actually insulate your pot and plant. I may try a few cuttings and will post here when I have some if you think you might like to give it a try. Frances.

Propagating coral honeysuckle?

I have a 2 year old bower of Coral Honeysuckle with a shepherds hook beneath. The hanging basket underneath is full of seedlings from the heavy crop of berries it produced this year. I bet if I had actually planted the berries none would have done a thing! LOL. Anyway, I will be transplanting lots of little Coral Honeysuckle in the next few weeks. If you are anywhere close to NE Florida/Jax area you are welcome to as many as you wish.

To my knowledge the are not commercially available. They need to be collected from the plant when the berries are ripe and the birds usually get them first. Then they have to go through a cleaning and drying process and then they have to be sown right away. You would have to get the seeds from someone who has mature berries on their plant. Penny

When you say "another variety", does that mean another plant Coral Honeysuckle(Lonicera Sempervirens "Magnifica")? Or does it mean another cultivar, different of the Magnifica cultivar?

You have to get another honeysuckle that is "not" a Magnifica cultivar.
Two of the same cultivar will not give you the cross pollination required to produce berries.
