Ronnie, a great bunch of pictures. Glad you shared them with us. Some I think I recognize, some I don't. With so many exotic varities available it sure is a challenge to know them all. Keep up the good work!!!

Early blooming morning glory, tall morning glory

My ivy leafed small light blue morning glories bloomed first and got to about four foot tall. The Early morning, or tall mix got tallest at about ten foot and bloomed much later. Because they needed to be sown after frost I didn't see a lot of difference between my direct sown and winter sown. I didn't use the best soil though and my drainage was bad. This year I'm doing more and will be direct sowing for ease of planting out.

Do Morning Glories Need Morning Sun?

    Q

    Comments (2)
I've grown morning glories for years. I've found that on the Gulf Coast, the afternoon sun makes them wilt. I'd say that morning sun would be a better choice. If they don't get enough sun, they won't want to bloom. As far as watering goes, not too little or too much. I usually soak the seed overnight before soaking. I also scratch the surface with an Exacto knife (and try not to cut myself) Hope this helps. Here is a link that might be useful: Deborah's Garden

Poppy, the first one is Blue Dawn, my all time favorite. I have heard it doesn't make seed. I got a start from Emma in the spring. I am going to try to save one in a pot for the winter.
Andrea, that one was a suprise for me!! I love it though.
I hope to get some seeds. I grow most of them in pots so they don't get as many flowers that go to seed before a frost.

Ronnie, I love the one that is three down, and in the first row. White with a maroon center. Do you know the name? Thanks, :) Arum

I like the one Five rows over from the left and three down. The purple with white centers.

Please tell me it is commonly available.

(and I've sworn off most MG's because of my nigh constant fight with bindweed, though I did relent to have the variegated one this year)

bottom row, second from left (buff pink with purple center)
Five down, four over (purple & white streaks)
First row, four over (rose silk or maybe chocolate?)
Third down, third over (really red!)

    Ronnie,
What beautiful glories. Would you please share the name of the blue picotee which is two over and four down? I have it growing on a telephone pole, but do not know its name.

    Thanks,

Gardengal, it was bought under the name 'fuji no momo' whether or not that is a "true" name I can't say.

Sunny, your little blue one could be 'jacquemontia tamnifolia' also called hairy cluster vine.

    Stunning.

Ok, I have regained my composure. I think. In any case, I see many people asking which is which. Maybe, Ronnie, if you don't mind, you could name them all row by row, from left to right?

Where did you get your seed?

    Just beautiful.....

    Thanks for sharing!

OK Here is the best of my memory and spelling!! LOL
Some seeds are from trade and some are from a co-op

Beginning in the top row from left to right:
indica blue dawn, star of yelta, unknown, choc.silk, picotee, matoukaze,

2-suigetsu, blue dawn, lindenhiemer, kureni, cornell, shibori

3-akatsuki no hikari, shibori, hama no kagayaki, split indigo, joyce cobb, hein no izumi

4- blue picotee, bp again, hikari, tye dye blue, grey lady, unknown,

5- sun smile, brazilian, mt. fuji pink, tye dye purple,mt. fuju blue, candystripe purple

6- candystripe purple, pink moonvine, isochidori, blue dawn, star of yelta, unknown stripe.

Please if anyone thinks any differently don't hesitate to venture on in and give me a proper name. Some of the ones I got in trades and bought on ebay were not named correctly and after searches and some good MG identifiers I found the names. Some people also call them different names. The split indigo is my name since I know it is some kind of cross, that was given to me as blue silk!! As others are crosses too.

Ronnie, does the Blue Dawn have heart shaped leaves? I have an unknown blue morning glory that has that shade of blue flowers. The buds are in clusters, like an upside chandelier, or like a hand with slighly bent fingers and contain 3 to 5 buds along the stem and the leaves are heart shaped, like a common morning glory, except I only planted Japanese seeds. Could this be Blue Dawn that I have?

Djm, the blue dawn doesn't usually grow from seed, I grew mine from cuttings. Mine has a tri lobe leaf, but the buds did grow in clusters. Here are the leaves.

Hello! I must say that I do admire your pictures of your morning Glories. I love that "Blue Dawn". I do not know if you are familiar with Ipomoea hederifolia, and I am not sure of the color, other than it has some red in it. I grew it this summer, but it was where I did not notice it. I thought it was short, but it evidently really likes the heights, and it doubled and trippled all over itself. If you have enough cuttings of "Blue Dawn", I would be willing to give you some of the Ipomoes Hederifolia seeds I have in exchange--if you want them, and, if you want anything, or all things, on my tradlist I would be very willing. Spring would be the most convenient time for me, as I am in S.E. New England, and have no greenhouse. Kindly reply one way or the other.
    THANK YOU. "corgicorner"

Ronnie, thanks so much! I may contact you later this winter to do a trade if it's ok. I do very little trades anymore, cos theres just not anything I want, but if it's something special, I consider it. Your MG's are absolutely beautiful, but then you know that!!! :) Arum

Ronnie, the one in the last row, second from the left, that you are calling "Brazilian" - is that the Brazilian Purple? I found out the botanical name is I. setosa. Not much under the botanical name, but a lot can be found under Brazilian Purple or Purple Brazilian. I just love it the color and the foliage.
