Help IDing this vine?

I've been admiring this vine around my town. Several people have it planted on fences in not-so-sunny locations. I've been trying to figure out what it is. Will someone please put me out of my misery? LOL. Sorry the picture isn't great--it was a cell phone drive-by! The vine has large leaves that have almost a purplish cast to them and purple/magenta flowers.

I asked for help in another forum, and have been told it was Merremia tuberosa, which I do recall planting. Several of my labels were lost.

It possible that you have one of the bindweeds, (Convolvulus sp.). Rapid growth and arrow-shaped leaves are indicators of these weeds... Sorry, I don't know much about evergreen vines for your area/climate. Mike

Neither did mine. I'm confident that we have/had the same plant based on the pictures as I just dug it out last week in favor of a flower bed. It seemed to have been intentionally planted there, and I may have seen some for sale at Pike yesterday. I'll keep an eye out.
