Nice! I ate my first ripe tomato today as well, and it was also a Stupice. My first year growing Stupice and they blow away Early Girls IMO.

Wow......small world. Thanks for readng my post. I grew Early Girls for years before I started growing only heirlooms and OP. I liked the EG because they were early, but IMO the taste doesn'r even compare. I'm assuming your zone is similar to mine?

buzzsaw is in zone 8, much warmer than 5. That is pretty good to get
a ripe tomato in zone 5, in June. I am also in a warmer zone than you,
but last year got my first big ripe tomato in second week of July. Possibly
if the rats had not eaten so many green ones, I could've gotten them
sooner. My first ripe one this year is Bloody Butcher on June 6th. Now
I getting about 2 or 3 every couple days. Will hold me over until the
big ones start turning red.

Congrats! I live just down the road 20 mins. in Victory--no ripe ones yet though but Stupice are a very good tasting super early tomato I'll remember that for next year for sure.

My stupice plants are still really small, and I don't expect any until mid august. But I'm going to start some a lot earlier next year. Like maybe february.

Double Congrats!! I'm two days away from picking my earliest ever Jetstar tomato. The blazing heat waves have pushed them to start to ripen. We have been enjoying Sungold until the full size tomatoes came in too!

I planted Stupice... as I did last year, for the purpose of getting early toms. They have been a disappointment... tasteless and small. I had one Stupice afflicted, seemingly, with late blight so I got rid of it. The disease did not spread. I have a remaining Stupice whose fruit has been lousy so I am going to axe it, as well.

I've never had large fruit from Stupice. They are "heirloom cherries," though reasonably prolific.

Wow! Did the wall of water protect it from the freak snowstorm we got in May? Or did you add protection for it then?

I used wall of waters this year for the first time (the red kozy koat kind). I just didn't plant them out as early as you! I wasn't sure just how much they'd protect them from freak snow or frost.

That's an early tomato. I won't be eating a fresh tomato for at least a 2 or 3 weeks and I'm in zone 6. you suck. :)

Stupice is not a large tomato, usually 2"-3" in diameter, but not a cherry. Sometimes I have found that the first ripe ones can be a bit bland, but the taste gets better as the season progresses. Still, I'd take an early, somewhat bland Stupice over a store bought tom any day.

Love the feedback! And yes, the Wall-O-Waters did protect them from the May, Mother's Day, snow. No extra protection needed. Not the first time I've had snow on my W-O-W's. Actually the snow is not as bad as cold. It was around 30 when snowing, but we had a really cold night around the same time, mid to low 20's and the water in the W-O-W's was about half frozen. Kind of fun to tap on the side of a W-O-W and realize it's solid. They still protected fine and the Stupice fruit actually set while protected by the W-O-W.

I'm officially jealous. My earliest will be something called a Red Alert that was a bonus pack of seeds. It's a 55 DTM and the plant has about 16 green tomatoes. They'll supposedly be 2-3 inches and I'm just waiting for some of them to ripen, hopefully by early July.
