I have a Daylily confession to make....

two years ago I pulled out named daylillies that were being overrun by ruellia. I put them in plastic containers with NO holes to just hold them until I got them planted. Well today they finally got planted. They were doing so good in the containers that they were always the last on my list to worry about. So 50 daylillies later I am exhausted! All plant swaps are in the ground except for tropical quava and small figs. I got alot accomplished!

I thought you were going to say you got the tags mixed up ... lol. But I know the feeling of accomplishment. Congratulations! We want to see pictures when they bloom.

Now I have a confession to make. I redid the drip irrigation in the center bed about six months ago and now after adding mulch and straightening the rocks I can't find the end to hook it up to the hose. Oh well .....

roselee...too funny. I have no irrigation, but have invested in soaker hoses that I will lay out once everything is planted.

I am encouraged by some of your posts, maybe with a little TLC I might be able keep it around for a while. Most of the research that I did on the Majesty came from right here. Here are a couple of excerpts: "They are very cheap and common as "instant indoor foliage" plants at chain stores. 90% end up in the trash after a year or two. They are not easy to keep looking healthy, get burned up tips and stalled by direct sun when they are young and essentially trunk less coming from a sun-screened nursery, are very temperamental and difficult to re-pot. The big box stores sell them because they can get them cheaper due to a higher growth rate." Even though there are other places to research plants my first and last stop is usually GW. These are real people with real experiences who are not trying to sell me something. With that said - I think that I am having a 'real' problem with one of my palms that is outside - but I'll put that in a separate post. Thanks all

Sounds like what you have are the species daylily H. Fulva Europa . These daylilies are stoleniferous (spread by underground rhizomes) and don't usually set any seeds and yes they will survive just about anything . I just dug up about 2 heaping 4 ft x 4 ft wagonfuls of Fulva roots and you should know that if you leave any and I do mean any of the orange roots behind 1/8th of an inch thick and larger they will grow back . So if you dig up make sure to be very thorough and remove any and all root pieces from the location before you plant anything else. You don't mention what zone you are in but do say you are hoping for evergreens and depending on your zone , Evergreens may or may not provide you with greenery year round . .

Trying to think of anything that might bother me to the point of "fear" but on the whole, the only thing that comes to mind is that at some time after a heart bypass operation, I developed a bit of an aversion to being in small closed spaces (think REALLY small). I believe this came from immediately post surgery (2015) when I had a breathing tube stuffed down my throat and was choking yet couldn't convince the powers in charge to remove it so I could swallow. Finally, a male nurse took pity upon my situation and traded the tube for a breathing canula whereupon the choking problem ceased. Reading the issues as stated by so many, I guess I've just now realized how fortunate I've been to not have phobias or other issues that prohibited me from doing whatever I wanted which includes standing on the edge of buildings/cliffs/elevators/glass floors or whatever, heights, crawling under/over/and around some rather inhospitable and closed spaces, bugs/bees/small creepy crawly things bother me not in the least although like most people, I rarely "play" with stinging and biting insects. I was always the one who got sent into dark basements, under pier and beam houses, and up to the highest limbs in some half rotten old tree. At present, advancing age along with less agility along with a short list of past injuries generally preclude me from doing many of the more dicey things that I used to do but then... if I need to do them, I will but a bit slower and probably a lot more safely than I used to. To those who have those conditions I've been fortunate to avoid, I do honestly wish you well and assume that due to the perceived age of some if not all posters around these forums, you have still been able to have full and satisfying lives. On the other hand, I've known more than several people over the years that are absolutely terrified of clowns. Of the couple folks I've actually asked about it, they were so upset by the very mention that they didn't know why they were so scared and refused to even discuss.

Good for you Misti!!! I hope to have all my plant swap plants and the flats of annuals I purchased in the ground by the end of the upcoming weekend!

I take it you didn't run into any more snakes while you got all those plants put out. :)

Roselee - funny! I thought it was just people like me that did stuff like that.

Misti - when I moved to Dallas I brought about 50 favorites from San Antonio and potted them up in compost. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would take me two years to get them in the ground. Lost a few, but most did just fine.

melvalena - nope no snakes yet...mostly in june/ july.
I will be calling on local GW's to take free plants soon as I am running out of room!

robyn, so what interesting plants did you bring from San Antonio? Those day lillies stunk to high heavens from being in a non draining container. With my luck they will probly die now that they have drainage...lol

I think I woke up in the twilight zone this morning. I posted on this thread yesterday..........second response right after Roselee...........now that post is gone. Anyone else have this happen??? Did anyone else see it before it disappeared???
Anyway Misti, I just thought you had been a busy, busy girl yesterday..........way to go !!!

I found a bag of amaryllis and mystery bulbs all dried up in a paper bag. I might just plant them and see what happens, otherwise they'll be compost :-)

Speaking of amarillis bulbs I 'lost' a whole five gallon bucket full of red and white stripped amarillis bulbs while in the midst of a garden redo a couple of years ago. I may have needed the bucket and dumped them in a big pot and then planted over them. Oh well ...

I got my start when I planted quite a few for my boss and his wife. Those tiny pieces that just did not look like they would do well ended up in some pots that became beautiful plants in a couple years. I do enjoy them but they are thirsty plants.
