It's due to the crazy weather all across the U.S. I have seen many early spring-blooming plants in bloom here in August this year. It will bloom again in the spring, and if we have another freaky summer/fall next year, it might bloom again - how lucky you are!

I honestly don't know how different it is from regular wisteria, but my Evergreen Wisteria is blooming, too, and has been for at least a week.

The wisteria that used to be in my garden would frequently sport a few blooms throughout the growing season even though the main blooming flush was in the spring.

Lucky you, I have had a wisteria for about 6 - 7 years and it has never bloomed. Why????

RuthAnn, wisterias often fail to bloom for several reasons. First, if it was seed grown, it might 8 to 10 years to ever bloom. Secondly, if you feed it too much nitrogen fertilizer, it will give you tons of vines and no blooms. If the plant is in your yard, the act of fertilizing the yard may cause the plant to get too much fertilizer. Thirdly, the blooms could be frozen out if the winter is especially bad. Lastly, if you are overly exuberant in trimming the plant back in the fall, you could cut the bloom spurs off.

I have heard that stressing the plant can cause it to bloom. You can do this by taking a flat bladed shovel and making cuts in the soil several feet out from the plant all around the perimeter of the plant. I did this on the wisteria plants I had in my first house after several years of no blooms and the plant bloomed the following spring. Don't know if this treatment caused the blooms or whether it just happened coincidentally. It is worth a shot though.

I have about four blooms on mine too, and it was heavy with flowers this Spring. I have hellebores blooming now.

It seems like almost every Fall there is something that surprises me with rebloom...last year it was blue himalayan poppy :)

Hi, my wisteria is from my mother's in St. Charles, Missouri. I have had it for about six years now. We moved it last year because we moved to a new home. It had never bloomed. My husband built me a beautiful pergola and it climbed to the top and just bloomed, one blossom, last week! I am so excited! Now I need to know, what about...purning?? Do you prune? If so, when? I have no idea what kind it is...also, should I fertilize? I was occasionally giving it some very diluted miracle grow recently...who knows?? But my Mom passed away four years ago, and it was as though she was hugging me.

There are cultivars of Chinese wisteria that are known to rebloom. American wisteria is also a repeat bloomer.

my wisteria finally bloomed one bloom this fall, after my husband built it a beautiful pergola to climb on. It's now fall and I don't know how to care for this wisteria. Should I prune it now? Just let it die down naturally? Help! I am hopeful for more than one bloom in the spring :)
I am in northern Indiana.
