tree peonies in texas

Herbaceous peonies are my favorite flowers (the fact that I grew up in Kansas must have something to do with that). I can't wait for someone to breed one that will bloom in zone 9.

Anyway, yesterday I ran across directions for growing *tree* peonies in zone 9. You force the plant into winter dormancy by cutting off the leaves in November and withholding water. In January the plant starts new growth, and it will bloom in February and March. (The plant will also need extra water in summer and fall.)

Does anyone on here have experience with this?
