This round robin is an extention of a wonderful group of traders, the Traveling Daylilies, who when at all possible trade daylilies. We have the most awesome group of traders, proven, experienced, honest, giving, sharing and awesome loving people. The way into this group is to have traded and proven yourself honest. We are not snobs, we just want to protect each other and you from any game traders... should there be any. ""With few exceptions, the commercial growers are not the ones jacking up the price of the conifers - the retailers are. Typically they triple the wholesale cost of the plant, or even more. Just Google "nursery wholesale prices" and you'll get a feel for what the growers are charging the retail shops. So those ridiculous prices you see are coming from the retailers."" ---------------------------------------------------- Having some experience in this now as both a customer and business partner in the nursery business, I know pretty well how this goes. I placed four orders at wholesale nurseries for about 300 plants varying between 1 gallon and 20 gallon pots. The wholesale up front cost was $6,720, and that was with no tax(Oregon). Transportation fees was about $450 and this was strictly fuel for a truck(21 footer) on four trips - keep in mind the truck was loaned to me, you're probably looking at $200-400 more for a truck in these instances if you financed it yourself. Next, watering, fertilizing and repotting the material ran another $250 for the first year, again on the cheap since it was in part of a system very few changes had to be made. Total costs at this point was around $7,500. Again, in a normal situation, you'd have rent(or a mortgage), insurance, liscensing, overhead for advertising and overhead for business staff(explained below). Of the $6,720 in plants, $1,700 were deemed too ugly or too rare to sell. The rare stuff either ended up in my garden or our botanical garden, obviously a nice 'benefit' of the job - choice/rare plants at wholesale prices. This left roughly $5,000 in stock which placed at an overall 'list price' of $11,800. (Slightly more then 100% mark-up). In the first year 112 plants totaling $4,100 sold, with a whole sale cost of $2,400. To me, as both a mathematician and lover of problem solving, this indicated that since the average profit margin of these plants was about 70% (considerably below the 109% avg. mark-up), this showed customers being savy themselves and shopping for plants they felt were of best value. Of this $1,700 in profit, I agreed to pay 50% to the nursery owner since they had provided the real-estate, the staff(and subsequent costs), and the means to sell the plants. A lot to take in no doubt, but as of 'today', my $7,500 investment has yielded $3,250, with about $2,500 in wholesale stock(valued at roughly $7,700) still for sale. Some scenarios: #1. **NONE of the stock sells in the next 2-3 years, it gets shuffled to whereever at wholesale cost or less minus costs and taxes and I'm looking at about $5,800 from my investment(a net loss of almost two thousand dollars and dozens of hours of time wasted). This is an unlikely scenario. #2. HALF of the stock sells in the next 2-3 years. Again, the leftovers would probably be sold to landscapers/wholesalers if that was possible at cost, running a total here, after taxes to about $7,000, $500 in net losses and the time lost again. This is a very real possibility in this soggy market! #3. ALL of my remaining stock sells for a total gross margin of $8,800, leaving me with $1,300 in profit for a few dozen hours of work. This is a pretty damn nice scenario, one which leaves me with both access to some rare plants for my own garden at wholesale prices, and also a decent profit out of it as well. In an ideal world, you take that $8,800 back to the nurseries in a couple of years and do it again, make another %15-20 and keep doing it until you're something akin to Walmart..... .....Unfortunately, this is rarely the case and reality shows me that my little foray into the nursery business was more like a 'PUSH' at a casino. I didn't lose but I didn't get rich either, and there is certainly still some risk that I could lose some money in the end. ********************************************************* Conclusion(still reading? you're my hero...): To make any *real* money in the nursery industry, most retail nurseries are going to have to price plants at a *minimum* 125% markup and more like closer to 200%-300%. This means a 4' specimen of Pinus parviflora 'Goldylocks' bought at $45 wholesale ends up with a price tag of $135-170! In some extreme cases, I think nurseries around here are pushing 400-500% profit margins on some specific cultivars, simply because they're still selling at this price. The reality here is that while the prices might seem high to the lay-person, there really is a lot going on behind the scenes and especially once you start thinking about stuff like taxes and lost product, it's pretty easy to see why these prices are commonplace. -Will

Update on my double electric AR french door ovens: After less than a year with the ovens and suffering through a variety of problems, which were all addressed by AR in a somewhat timely fashion...my ovens were pulled out and replaced with new ones. All paid for by AR. We had a similar issue with the 50 amp v 60 amps. Their printed installation material says 50amps are needed but actually the company in an email to me said 60amps. Exhausted from the back and forth with the company, I ended up paying the electrician to come and change the breaker when the new ovens were installed. Anyway...here's the scoop. I've had the new ovens now for nearly a year and like them very much BUT they only seem to work when on the Convection setting. I cannot get a good bake on anything when using just Bake. Don't know why. I've come to terms with this; it's working for me. Warning: you canNOT change from Bake to Convection or vice a versa without the top element coming on and BURNING whatever you're baking. Essentially, when you change a setting, the oven thinks you're restarting and that super-hot top element comes on. So make a decision straight off on how you're baking and stick with it, otherwise if you change while baking all will be burnt. Trust me on this. Yes, the ovens are noisy. Yes, the French doors are wonderful. No, the knobs do not get hot. I have mine on for hours. I do have stone on the bottom racks this is a permanent feature. Yes, I rotate pans. A lot of info. Let me know if you have any other questions. Do I recommend? I need to think about that.

The answer to this question varies by state and, perhaps, county. Following is information from the states of South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maine, Ontario, and West Virginia. The requirements in you state will be similar to those represented here. Space limitations preclude posting of the programs for all states. ********************************************************** SOUTH CAROLINA: This volunteer training program is administered by the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service. Introduced in Charleston County in 1981, the Master Gardener program is now offered in 36 counties. The Master Gardener program is divided into two parts: instruction and service. In the first part, participants receive at least 40 hours of intensive, practical horticultural training. A few of the following topics are covered in the program: *Soils and Plant Nutrition *Basic Plant Pathology, Physiology, and Entomology *Vegetable Gardening *Tree and Small Fruit Culture *Culture of Woody Ornamentals *Lawn Management *Basic Landscape Design *Problem Solving After successfully completing the classroom portion, which involves regular attendance and passing a final exam, participants receive the title of "Master Gardener." Upon completion he/she will be awarded a Penn State Master Gardener certificate. This certification is restrictive in nature in that it is valid only when the individual is participating in the Penn State Master Gardener Program and for one year only. Recertification will be issued each year only to those individuals who make a commitment for participation in the program for the coming year as outlined below. When individuals cease active participation, then their designation as Penn State Master Gardener becomes void. Those not continuing in the program should be aware that if they represent themselves as Master Gardeners, they are violating their original commitment to Penn State Cooperative Extension. RECERTIFICATION: A Master Gardener may recertify for participation in the program for another year by: 1) committing to a minimum of twenty (20) hours of volunteer work to be completed each year, and 2) completing or having completed eight (8) additional hours of horticulture training each year. Examples of additional training are : New Master Gardener training, Master Gardener Advanced Training, State/Regional/National MG conferences, University or Community College courses, Arboretum and Botanical Garden seminars, annual horticulture conferences, and Pennsylvania Federation of Garden Club courses. The training must be approved as acceptable by the county extension agent responsible for supervising the Master Gardener program. INACTIVE STATUS: An inactive Master Gardener is one who is unable to commit to an additional 20 hours service plus 8 hours training at present, but would like the opportunity to recertify themselves in the future. The following policies apply: 1) An inactive Master Gardener is one who is in good standing, having completed the original commitment of training, exam, and volunteer service. 2) The inactive Master Gardener must attend or have attended eight (8) hours of acceptable horticulture training for each year of inactive status. (See Recertification #2 for examples of training). 3) An inactive Master Gardener may recertify within three (3) years as long as the above criteria are met. Individuals on inactive status for more than three years are required to retake the New Master Gardener training. OUT-OF-STATE: Master Gardeners who are certified in another state may be admitted to a Penn State Master Gardener program by meeting the following criteria: 1) acquire or be provided with a current Penn State Master Gardener training manual. 2) acquire or be provided with a Penn State Master Gardener name badge. 3) score a minimum of 80% on a final exam administered by Penn State Cooperative Extension. 4) meet the Recertification requirements listed above. FEES: To cover the cost of training manuals and supplies, a non-refundable standardized fee determined by the State Coordinator will be charged. Upon an individual's acceptance into the program, this fee will be paid at the county level by the county extension office or the Master Gardener volunteer as per county policy. LIABILITY: Master Gardener Volunteers are insured under the P.W. Woods & Son, Inc. liability insurance program. Coverage applies only to individual volunteers while they are performing their volunteer activities for Penn State Cooperative Extension. The coverage does not extend to other organizations or groups that volunteers are working with. Volunteers may not sign contracts or leases assuming liability responsibility on behalf of other organizations or groups. All contracts or "facilities use" agreements that require volunteer signature must be reviewed by the Wood office prior to signing. County offices are asked each year to identify the number of volunteers to be covered and the appropriate premium charge is applied. If volunteers are not reported, there is no liability coverage. GUIDELINES: The title "Penn State Master Gardener" is to be used only and exclusively by individuals trained and certified to assist Penn State Cooperative Extension, and the title is valid only when the volunteer is participating in the Penn State Master Gardener Program. The title Master Gardener is to be used only when doing unpaid, volunteer work in a program activity approved by an extension agent. Master Gardeners are not to advertise their name or their place of business nor be listed on the advertisements of business places as Penn State Master Gardeners. Because the Master Gardener Program is a Penn State Cooperative Extension public service program providing unbiased research-based information appearing as a commercial activity, having association with commercial products, or implying Penn State Cooperative Extension endorsement of any product or place of business is improper and grounds for dismissal from the program. The training and experience gained by participating in the Penn State Master Gardener Program are valuable, and may rightfully be listed as qualifications when seeking employment. Once employed and while serving as a paid employee, or if self-employed, Master Gardeners should not display credentials or give the appearance of being a Master Gardener at the place of business, unless the place of business is specifically designated by an extension agent as a Master Gardener clinic location. When Master Gardeners speak before groups on horticulture topics it is permissible for them to accept unsolicited reimbursements or gifts. It is inappropriate, however, to seek paid speaking engagements while participating in an authorized extension function and while using the Master Gardener title. In all cases the county extension office policy on speaking engagement fees should be honored. When a Master Gardener travels out of county for a speaking engagement, it is appropriate to request payment for travel expenses from the county cooperative extension office or other organization requesting the Master Gardener 's services. When making recommendations which include the use of fertilizers and pesticides, Master Gardeners must follow current cooperative extension recommendations. Horticultural problems which are not specifically covered by extension recommendations should be referred to an extension agent. Questions concerning commercial production of crops and pest control on such crops should be referred to an extension agent. *********************************************************** MAINE: Maine's Master Gardener Program provides participants with at least 40 hours of in-depth training in the art and science of horticulture. Trainees receive current, research based information from Extension educators and industry experts. In return, trained Master Gardeners volunteer their time and expertise in many ways for community programs and activities. As part of a nationwide Cooperative Extension effort, Master Gardeners are recognized as well-trained practitioners who serve and beautify their communities. They are linked to a professional network of support through county, state and national Cooperative Extension offices. What Volunteer Projects Do Master Gardeners Do? A major statewide effort of the Master Gardener Program is the Plant A Row for the Hungry program. This is a "people helping people" program to assist in feeding the homeless and hungry in your own community. Through various projects, gardeners will grow a little extra and donate the produce to local soup kitchens and food banks that serve the homeless and hungry. Master Gardeners are Lifelong Learners Master Gardeners can help direct their own advanced training. They also provide places where Master Gardeners can experiment with new techniques, grow unusual crops, design theme gardens and hone their gardening skills. Supervision: Immediate supervision will be by the Master Gardener Coordinating Committee and/or the coordinator of that area. Required Skills, Experience and Abilities The applicant must: have a good basic knowledge and interest in ornamental horticulture and general home gardening. successfully complete an eligibility test, the Independent Study Courses and attend training sessions and seminars. be willing to commit time to the Master Gardener activities (minimum 20 advice hours and 10 non-advice hours per year of participation) be able to work without constant supervision be able to work with the public and be eager to serve. Proper Representation: The title "Master Gardener" is to be used in all dealings with the public during periods of volunteer work authorized by the coordinating committee. However, if the volunteer is not on the job as a Master Gardener, then he/she should not use the term Master Gardener to signify authority. No responsibility will be taken for advice given during times unauthorized by the coordinating committee. All advice given by Master Gardener Volunteers when working under the authorization of the coordinating committee must be in accordance with present Master Gardeners of Ontario Inc. guidelines and present OMAFRA publication ( eg. Publication 64). Recommendations are to be based on unbiased information. Implied endorsement of any product or place of business is improper. At no time should the Master Gardener volunteer try to reply to problems of a commercial producer. These questions should be referred to an OMAFRA specialist. Volunteer Commitment Volunteer Hours Each volunteer is required to contribute a minimum of thirty (30) hours of service each year. Twenty (20) of these hours are to be direct contact with the public: giving advice on a one to one basis, lecturing to a group, writing articles for publication or the production of new fact sheets, and filling specific requests made to the Master Gardener group. Ten (10) administrative hours must be contributed by: attending local group meetings, serving on Provincial Master Gardener Committees or attending Provincial Master Gardener meetings, administrative time and time spent preparing for lectures or clinics. Responsibilities.. Master Gardeners and Master Gardeners in Training have maintained high levels of knowledge and are known for reliable information. It is very important that the Master Gardeners of Ontario Inc. maintain these high standards. Master Gardeners are required to give balanced, non judgmental advice that has been in compliance with the recommendations set out by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. Master Gardeners will not imply the endorsement of any product or place of business in their recommendations. Acceptable Activities Advice for Volunteer Hours Master Gardener duties are determined by the volunteer and the local coordinating committee. Activities must be information- oriented rather than physical labour and should reflect the needs of the community. Some acceptable activities are: garden clinics/demonstrations provide horticultural information to hospitals, nursing homes,YMCA, therapy programs writing - newspaper, handouts etc. classes/workshops, distribution of a speaker list to organizations, schools , OMAFRA etc. ********************************************************** WEST VIRGINIA: The West Virginia Master Gardener Program started in 1993. Under the leadership of John Jett, WVU Extension Service horticulture specialist, Master Gardeners are now active in 35 of West Virginia's 55 counties. There are 1,048 active Master Gardeners in WV. These volunteers are trained in classes and activities provided by the West Virginia University Extension Service and Extension Agents in these counties. Master Gardeners receive a minimum of 30 hours of instruction. Along with an orientation, volunteers are given core training in plant science, plant propagation, soil science, plant pathology, entomology, communication skills, and integrated pest management. These subjects give the Master Gardener trainee the basic horticultural knowledge necessary to assist extension staff effectively. Specific gardening topics like pruning techniques, composting, house plants, vegetable culture, herbs, tree and small fruit culture, lawns and landscape design allow the Master Gardener to specialize in an area of particular personal interest. The Master Gardener designation becomes void when an individual ceases active participation in an organized program. Many county programs have established local associations that provide leadership and sustain Master Gardener programs and activities. The West Virginia Master Gardener Association (WVMGA) was incorporated in 2000 and the board of directors is comprised by representatives from many of the county programs.The state board meets quarterly to address statewide program issues and is responsible for organizing the annual conference.The location of the annual conference varies from year to year with an effort to accommodate Master Gardeners around the state.The conferences are attended by 150 to 200 Master Gardeners who can participate in several advance training workshops and learn about successful county projects.Awards are presented to individuals and groups from throughout the state for their Master Gardener activities and recognition is given to several county Master Gardeners and a State Master Gardener of the Year. Following the awards banquet, there are both a live and a silent auction of items donated by individual Master Gardeners and county groups.Proceeds from the auctions are deposited in an endowed account with the WVU Foundation. The West Virginia Master Gardeners and WVU Extension Service presented their first $1,000 scholarship to a WVU horticulture student in the spring of 2003. In 2001, the West Virginia Master Gardeners received the Governor's Service Award and WVU Extension's Outstanding Partner Award. In 2002 the program trained approximately 450 clients and certified close to 250 Master Gardener volunteers. Master Gardeners across the state volunteered 20,000 hours to their communities and contacted 5,800 clients. The West Virginia Master Gardener Association celebrated their tenth year at the annual conference at Holiday Inn in Oak Hill April 4-6, 2003 with 175 participants. John Jett, state Master Gardener coordinator and the conference planning committee organized the conference with interesting sessions on rock and water gardening, photography, horticulture therapy, entomology, container gardening, pruning. At the Saturday evening banquet, Outstanding Master Gardeners from 15 counties were recognized.Volunteer Service awards were presented to Master Gardeners from 5 counties and the Vegetable Variety Trial participants were recognized. Gloria-Nope no ones told me lately that they really like me. I thought you didn't like me. I'm just kidding. I love you guys and so glad I joined the group. Now what's the reason? Did you get my pay pal money? Also LMK about extra daylilies for sale from those last ones you put on.

Miss Debbie-Do you like cannas, irises, and other flowers besides daylilies? LMK I also have a clematis if you are interested in one. Thought I would add some extra things in your box. Whew what about dahlias? I've got some awesome named dahlias this year. Need to post some pictures of some.

Cathy-Sorry to hear you are sick. I forgot to post you sent me an awesome orchid book. I need that book so bad. I got my first orchid to bloom this year and did the happy dance for days. Need to see what I did right. Had some that did not bloom though. Maybe next year they will.

If anyone is interested I have got named cannas FREEEEEE.
Need to thin them out. I can get a list together and tell you which ones I have.

Will try my hand at these next year. And, if at the end of next summer, I am hauling in like 100 brugs into my basement - I am going to blame YOU!

ooh i want some more cannas too! i only have four or five different ones right now!!

if you guys need any info or tips on orchids, at least the more widely grown varieties, i've been growing them for years and at one time had over 500 of them! we had a problem with the heater in the gh two winters ago and i lost almost all of them. i think i'm at 30 right now and i have a few more on the way! i hope to build the collection back up, but 500 was waaaaay too many! the one i was most excited about was my neostylus lou sneary 'colorful blue'!

After the grandkids got here my oldest (6) wasn't feeling well, the next thing you know she is crying and yelling for me cause she upchucked all over herself, poor little thing, had to get her cleaned up and into clean clothes, and then get some childrens advil down her, she was burning up. By the time all that was done, those poor little lilies and seeds had gone right out of my head.

Well, off to chill for a bit, what a day, worked my tail off.

I have a question. Most of my daylilies are in two beds near my patio, one is long and about 18 inches wide that runs the length of two sections of stockade fence and curves to meet my shed (all yellow/orange/red and combinations). The other is 1/4 round (all pinks/lavendars):

There is another 1/4 round daylily garden on the other side of the clematis covered chainlink fence that you can't see, but that was Brian's garden and won't be altered.

Currently I have black mulch in each of them. Do you plant anything under your daylilies? A groundcover or shorter plant that compliments them? I read a post about "understory" plantings and was wondering what you guys think about it.

Dianne, I know it's not too creative, but for spring I have a few tulips and hyacinths planted throughout the garden. For later, I love the Impatiens and Ageratum 'Leilani Blue' (taller than the shorter variety). They add color to the DL beds all summer and fall. I don't have just a DL bed, but they do take up most of the room in my garden. Here is a pic. I took yesterday. I grow about 5 Ageratum 'leilani blue' from seed, the rest reseed late and so flower till the first frost. The DL's keep the Impatiens shaded just enough during the hot days. This garden is FULL SUN. I lined the garden with White Alyssum, purple petunias, dusty miller. There are blue and red salvia intermixed. If you are looking for perinneals, then I don't have any ideas. :o(

Good Morning Everyone...

Quick check in, then off to the shower & off to court to bring Mr. Man home again, Keeping him till Saturday & off to Salamanca again Saturday. Not just to gamble, Unfortunately DH & I are smokers (no kicks to the head please) the kind we get are almost $20.00 cheaper than here, also have other peoples to pick up. So depending on if we win, we could be WAY far ahead..Sounds good...

An old man, a boy & a donkey were going

Oh Boy a Job telling folks off. Too Funny.
NO LADY YOU GET NO MONEY BACK AND NO MORE DAYLILIES WE DID NOT TAKE YOUR HUSBAND TO RAISE OR A JOB KEEPING UP WITH YOUR PACKAGES. HOWS THAT?

Would you like the receipe for Neiman-Marcus Cookies
Here it is.

2 cups butter
24 oz. chocolate chips
4 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups sugar
1 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated)
5 cups blended oatmeal
4 eggs
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. vanilla
3 cups chopped nuts (your choice)
Measure oatmeal, and blend in a blender to a fine powder.
Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla, mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate chips, Hershey Bar, and nuts. Roll into balls, and place two inches apart on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.
Makes 112 cookies.

This is the story about the cookie recipe.

My daughter and I had just finished a salad at a
Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dallas, and we decided to have a small dessert. Because both of us are such cookie lovers, we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus cookie."

It was so excellent that I asked if they would give me
the recipe, and the waitress said with a small frown.
"I'm afraid not, but you can buy the recipe."
Well, I asked how much, and she responded, "Only two
fifty-it's a great deal!" I agreed to that, and told her to just add it to my tab.

Thirty day later, I received my VISA statement, and the
Neiman-Marcus charge was $285.00! As I glanced at the bottom of the statement it said, "Cookie Recipe-$250.00
I called Neiman's Accounting Dept. and told them the waitress said it was "two fifty", which clearly does not mean "two hundred and fifty dollars. Neiman-Marcus refused to budge. They would not refund my money because, according to them. What the waitress told you is not our problem. You have already seen the recipe. We absolutely will not refund your money at this point. I just said, "Okay, you folks got my $250, and now I'm going to have $250 worth of fun." I told her that I was going to see to it that every cookie lover in the United States with an e-mail account has a $250 cookie recipe from Neiman-Marcus..for free.

MaryB and Shirley, so glad you liked your hosta boxes. Know i didn't have to send MB, wanted too:). Actually, im not even sure im done yet :). if i don't have to work sat. may go back lol. Noticed that neither of you have a want list...if there is something in particular you are looking for email me....might find it...they say they have 3000 kinds there.

Shirley, have to laugh at the recipie:, i have made!. i got that email when i was either engaged or newly married (15 years ago) and still was making some attempt at cooking. The cookies were awesome as i remember.

Sharon, your garden is fantastic. such color. you cannot even tell its a dl bed. mulch: doubt im going to help you, but im in the process of converting all to newspaper covered with straw. after experimenting a bit this is cheap, works as well as anything ive tried, and the soil in the beds i have done this too are much nicer for it.
Doesn't look so bad as you would think...but this is country.

Dianne, ooh I have the same question on groundcovers. i have had a tiny bit of luck with sedums and thyme, but both are not spreading fast enough for me. im thinking of trying some of those wave petunias...but would prefer a perennial.

Susie, ooh chicks? is a lupie a chicken (i am transplanted country)?

Sharon--your garden is incredible! I had to really look closely, I thought you had painted those colors on with a Paint program. Stunning! I'm saving the picture and your description for spring. I never thought of alyssum. Wow.

Shirley - Here's the list of cannas I bought from Donnie Hallman:
Amazon Butterfly, Borneo, Creations Spark, Tangled Web, Topaz, Tropical Sunrise & Tyrol.
I got just two from Alice Harris this year: Sugar & Spice and Moulin Bronte (a Bernard York cultivar).
Tropicanna Gold is the other "new" canna I got this year, although I have a couple dozen older ones. I love cannas as much as daylilies, if thats possible.

Mary - I was glad to read that your hibiscus bloomed for you (white edges!!) & you got it ID'd. I'm still peering at internet photos trying to discern what mine is..

And JO - a YELLOW hibiscus? I hope you are bright eyed and bushy tailed soon and can post a photo of THAT!

Dawn - turn that wing 170 degrees and look again - there is a huge butterfly/angel wing from another angle. I'm so glad you like it - I figured it was so appropriate for you that I had to give it up!

Underplantings for daylilies:
I use ground cover sedums like Album Balticum, Dragon's Blood & Hispanicum, Violas, Rosularia & even [gawd I UNDERSTAND, Dianne!!! - been trying for long minutes to remember the name of these plants...] Heliotrope - they all seem to be good companion plants for the daylilies, as evidenced by profuse blooms for all.

I've been working 3 jobs these days & today is my 28th wedding anniversary. My Herb & I are both too tired to celebrate, but I guess I'll wake him up to go for unlimited shrimp pretty soon here ~m'

I am so blown away by the box I received last night. Its been a real hectic and rough month here. Three nights ago my mother was admitted to the hospital and I havenÂt had much sleep. SheÂs on one floor and my very dear uncle, who I have been caring for for many, many years lays withering away in the same hospital on another floor. September canÂt end soon enough for me.

SherryB/msbernard sure treated me to a box full of more than I ever expected. I just couldnÂt believe my eyes when I opened it. There were 5 packages of mixed seeds: Japanese iris, liatris, clematis, lambÂs ear (thanks Â killed my plant earlier this year) and rose campion. Then this fat, stuffed to the gill package of poppy seed. I will enjoy winter sowing this assortment.

Also included in my box were globe master allium bulbs and these daylilies ~~ orchid corsage, sabine baur, siloam uri winniford; fairy tale pink; divertissement; statuesque and rococo. A few I am familiar with and the others I googled Â all are just beautiful, but I have to admit, I love the style of that sabine baur. They are the kind I just adore Â the deep centers with the lighter outer. I donÂt know if they are called anything specific, I just call them gorgeous.

Sherry, this was a wonderful box, I feel so spoiled. Here I was thinking IÂll get another two, maybe three daylilies in this swap and you sent me way over my quota. Thank you ever so much for your generosity.

Hello Ladies, just a minute to catch everyone up. I hope no one thinks I am a flake but I am not going to be able to mail my package to Marea until saturday morning. It will be a day late going out. My house is now full of Houston storm refugees, (friends and family) and I have been busy trying to make space and get everyone settled in to ride out the storm. Anyway I did not get the box packed for marea and I still have to work tomorrow so it will be tomorrow evening after the po is closed before I can get her box packed. The visitors were a surprise but I can't refuse to shelter them and If I had thought about it before them I would have called and offered anyway. Tomorrow should be better as they have all finally arrived safely and have space to sleep. So Marea please excuse my tardiness and I will make your box special for you. I also want to let you know that my box from Jo arrived and OH MY GOSH CAN SHE PACK A BOX. I am whooped tonite from all I have had to do and I am going to go to bed. I will get on here in the morning and let you all know what a wonderful job JO did of packing me some plants. WOW is all I can say! So many plants and gifts. What a great person you must be Jo, it is obvious that you took alot of time and care in packing this box for me. I will share the contents in the morning as it is lengthy!!!!! Thanks all Tanarae

Cindy, Jean-Wow you can't believe half the stuff you get in e-mails. I was really feeling sorry for that guy. I agree if you don't look at your receipt oh well. But I do need the cookie recipe. We have cookie parties at Christmas time and I have run out of good recipes. You bring 4 doz. of different cookies and swap them with others. Loved doing that last year so this year it is at my house.

Marea-You really got some nice cannas. Please put my name on your amazon butterfly, creations spark, sugar & spice, and Moulin Bronte when you get some to trade. I have autumn dragon if you need it. It just bloomed and I needed a white one. I love the dwarfs, they are my favorite. I have a dwarf called madame butterfly and it's only 2 ft high. soooo cute
