Brandy Boy - awesome variety
Comments (77)Something i forgot to mention, i have a BB with 3 cotyledons, nothing too amazing, but there's another with two seedlings out of one seed, two leaders, the stems were fused a few millimeters above the soil level. There is a chance that the twins were two thin seeds stuck together, but i always check for that beforehand and do not like leaving them stuck together. I plan on growing them out myself, i wanted to mark them today before they become lost in the mix and unidentifiable. Pruning technique for the twins should be interesting. I took a picture of them a couple of weeks back, sent the pics to my PC, but can't find them for the life of me now... Steve...See MoreBetter Boy or Brandy Boy?

Comments (16)Hudson at the present the photos posted in this thread have been done with my phone cam. The thing is it is not easy to hold it, and take a clear shot up close with one hand, while the other hand is holding branches out of the way. Though some pics of production will be coming. I had to give RBM a hair cut due to heavy wind that broke a few branches off, and trimming off some that were showing the start of septoria. I have been using a lot of Daconil so far. I can say it has done well for me. This time last year septoria was a major problem. A couple of the plants seemed to just grow faster than the septoria could spread. It has been wet here for a week. Short severe spats of rain, with gale force winds, then followed by a day and a half of misty, and overcast....See More2017 Brandy Boy vs Bolseno -- so far....
Comments (1)Both have a superb taste of 9+ rating by us --- both have thin skin and are juicy. Both are huge plants over 8+ feet now (7-30-2017) and will probably get past 10 feet tall by end of season. The differences are as follows: Brandy Boy has soft flesh throughout, complex flavors, with a pronounced tangy taste. Disease resistance is at 5 (lots of yellow leaves removal by now so the stalks are bare up to 3 feet, and over 50% blossom drop), productivity is thus at 6. Bolseno is crisp, has firm flesh, much more juice, excellent flavors, starts off with a touch of sweetness and ends with a tangy finish. Disease resistance is at 10, productivity at 10. If we had to grow only one huge tomato plant --- it would be Bolseno! If you have a greenhouse, where disease resistance is not important, grow Brandy Boy, but also add the delicious Bolseno!
