Yellowing leaves on my tomato plants?

I transplanted my 3 heirlooms to 20 inch pots and used MG potting mix about a week ago. They have some yellowing on some of their leaves and branches. Could it be from the transplant? We have had storms with some torrential rains so I thought it might be water.

Unless those plants are of a small variety. Those plants are in way to small pots. Once they get fully developed thay'll never get a sufficient amount of water. IJMHO

Another thing- Is the wood chips in your soil? That can be your prob. Some potting mix has way to much wood chips in it.

What's in the Sta-Green mix? I just went to their website to see, and here are the products they list: Soils & Ammendments African Violet Potting Mix All Purpose Potting Mix Cactus & Succulent Potting Mix Charcoal Flower Planting Mix Houseplant & Tropical Potting Mix Nursery Blend Planting Mix Perlite Seed & Sod Starter Soil Sphagnum Peat Moss Vermiculite First of all, I wouldn't trust a manufacturer which can't spell "amendment." Secondly, I don't see a "Flower and Vegetable Mix."

Here in my area we have had much rain in the last few weeks. What is the problem?? As long as there's no wilting of plants and no spots on the leaves there are two main reasons why you might be seeing yellow leaves at the base of the plants. The first, with so much rain, is waterlogged soil so that the roots can't take up water or nutrients the result of which, leaves do turn yellow. If this is the case as the pots dry out conditions should improve. Second, it could be just normal aging of leaves which happens at the bottom of the plants first. In any case I'd take off those few yellow leaves so you can better monitor the situation. Carolyn

I'm no expert, but if they were my plants I'd blame the rain, but keep an eye on them. Now, I'm assuming you've had quite a bit of rain. Or perhaps only a few inches, but the tomatoes are in a low-lying area, or your soil doesn't drain as well as you'd like. Anyway, have a look at the thread linked below. Your plant is fine and normal. Lower leaves, especially those shaded, will get yellow and dry up or fall off eventually.

Specific to the plants show in the containers in the pictures above: Prune the yellowed leaves. Apply Miracle-Gro, Peters, etc., tomato formula or rose formula plant food at least once per week along with a tablespoon of Epsom salts per gallon fertigation. Some form of calcium dissolved in the fertigation application would help prevent BER as well. In addition, water the containers daily with plain water.
