Growing Tomatoes in Containers

I've grown tomatoes before, but it's been a while.

This year I have a new house and a pregnant wife, so I don't have much time to do a full garden. I thought instead that we might grow a few tomatoes in containers on our deck.

We visited the nursery today, and noticed that Sweet 100 was listed as a good container tomato, so we bought one. We asked for some help, and the woman who assisted us suggested we use a 14 inch pot.

They also had Brandywines, and I asked if this also would work. She said yes, and again suggested a 14 inch pot.

Most of what I'm reading on this site says this is too small, particularly for the Brandywine.

My questions are: will a Brandywine grow properly in this size pot? Or am I better off going out and buying a bigger pot? If so, what size?

Thanks in advance for your help.
