perennial vine for part shade to full shade?

I want to plant a vine to grow on a chain link fence between my house and the house next door ... to cover the fence and block the view and noise of their air conditioning unit ... it's pretty much full shade because of trees ... maybe a little spotty morning sun.

Evergreen, flowering, fragrant, and especially deer-resistant would be bonuses. Research indicates that the purple passion flower, climbing hydrangea, silver lace, akebia, and trumpet have some of the attributes I'm looking for.

Any comments on these choices for my situation? Is there something better?

If you search for Trumpet Vine on these forums you'll find a LOT of reasons not to plant it. I planted some and after reading on the forums pulled it up and burned it! Apparently, it won't bloom unless it has full sun and is so invasive it'll take over your yard and eat anything in it's path. You could try honeysuckle, although it won't be evergreen. Virginia Creeper is nice, but doesn't flower. Ivy can be quite invasive too, but I hear the varigated ones are better than the standard English Ivy. Again, no blooms, but that one is at least evergreen. Dutchman's pipe? Not sure if it'll be perenial where you are.

aquawise, columbine sounds good. Mixed colors? What can I give to you? Margez, all of those sounds great. I can trade you one flower type for one lettuce type. Mine (at my old house) was in full sun all day and thrived. I took cuttings to bring here and have put them in mostly sun and close to the garage to keep them from freezing. It worked but then a week ago or so, caterpillars got to them OVERNIGHT! but their on their way back after being sprayed.

GardenWitch, great idea about the clematis! Went to a nursery and someone suggested "Sweet Autumn". Yummy. I'm worried that a Clematis might try to climb up and choke whatever else is planted there?...? CatLady - whoops, should have been more specific! I meant Moonflower Vines (Ipomoea Alba). Don't know the Moonflower of the Datura genus (are they also called Devil's Trumpet?)- there are so many common names and they all seem to overlap. I should just be like my sister and revert to the Latin! (she's a plant physiologist, so at least she has an excuse ;)

If it is part shade, there are several varieties of clematis that you could try. I have 'Silver Moon' growing on the north side of a slatted fence, under a Heptacodium. It gets little direct sunlight, but still blooms well. This Spring it's had 20 blooms. 'Hagley Hybrid' & 'Nelly Moser' are also recommended for partly shaded conditions.
