But remember that our two Sombreuils are 20 years old. That said, I'd hate to lose them, because I keep hearing from people who say theirs don't repeat, and ours repeat like crazy. Anyhow, yes. We get lots of bloom up the side. And there are often long canes to stretch along the adjoining fence. In general, tho, it's not a rose I'd try to wrap, because its big canes can be rather rigid. (Got nasty prickles, too, including the ones on the backs of the leaves.) But as for your bloomless 3-ft. I'd cut it. It sounds like it was chugging along and something happened that it didn't like, and it didn't form a bud. Cut to a leaflet facing in the direction you wish it to go, and it will probably get back in growing mode. Don't forget tho, it can take a climber like this a good three years -- maybe more to really demonstrate what it can do. It's probably growing roots like mad. Jeri

Yeah, give it a bit more time. Think of that mass on the pot as the foundation. I have morning glories currently at a base of porch post. From year's past, I know that within a few weeks the plants will be climbing the post. We have string there to help it along. By the end of August and middle of September the post will be swallowed by the morning glories. Don't overfeed MGs. It will cause too much vegatative growth and not enough blooms.

I really have a lot of space (clay dirt), but I took out my above ground pool this spring and a small portion of deck that lead to the pool. There was a support post for the edge of the decking that I left in the ground to fashion a trellis. I planted moonvine (for evening appeal) and supposed to be Milky Way MG (for day/morning). I probably over-planted, but I do like the effect. Next year, I'll plant the moonvine on the wine trellis instead of mandevilla. I drilled holes in the post every 18 in or so (took some muscle and a ladder for me), sawed up and old broom stick into 20 in lengths and secured the broom sticks in the drilled holes with a screw. I used some small wire and started working my way up, looping the wire around the broom sticks. I think I put 2 or 3 wires on each side of the post. I saw this done at a commercial pond place, they planted clematis last year and mg, it was lush and full. The had a nice "topper" on theirs, I put a gargole on mine and he's now stuck in the vines (blown into them from a storm). I noticed this year, they didn't plant the mg, and the clematis is creeping. I'm sure it will look much better next year. Hope some of you can utilize my post idea to your advantage.-B

Hey Rick - The Mg's may climb up wire , although wire can be slippery and get hot . the twining stems will likely be able to cling better to something thicker or something like jute...
