Here's a photo I took today of my sweet pea 'High Scent' seedlings. They are almost too tall for the milk jugs now. Hoping to plant them out soon...still constructing a "ground-hog free" area for them. We managed to find an old iron garden fence to construct a ground-hog barrier with. Hopefully the sweet peas will grow through and around the openings in the fence...may need to add some string for them to climb on? ellenr, I don't really know how tall sugar snap peas will grow, but that's great you are growing an edible pea...I have yet to grow anything edible in my current garden due to the groundhogs (sigh). I heard they will even eat ornamental sweet peas like the ones I'm growing, even though humans are not supposed to eat them. Found an article about the sugar snap peas online (see link). Seems like there are different kinds of sugar snaps...some get to be 6 feet, but some are a bush variety. Nancy, I doubt that you drowned yours last year...however, you may have caused them to rot if you planted in cold soil and watered the cold soil. That is totally different than drowning them. LOL!!!! I do not scarify...snip or score the peas. I also don't soak. When I plant outside, I plant first knuckle deep and forget about them till about mid June. When I plant indoors, knuckle deep and plant in damp soilless mix. I have all the sweet peas I want then some. lolllll. Last year I threw some seed out just to get rid of them....next thing I knew these vines were growing and I was like....hmmmm I didn't plant sweet peas there. Then I remembered I just emptied the package, didn't even plant them. Really they are not that difficult to grow. Sierra

the wild ones that are perinial are called everlasting peas. i just found that out. i bought a plant a few yrs ago and collected seeds last yr. i started an egg carton full of seeds this yr and they did grow but took quite a while to sprout. they are different than other types of sweat peas. anyway i gave all the sprouts away but my plant didnt come back this year. i have a few volunteers(sp) in the garden this yr though. plus they are not hard to find here in mi. they grow along the sides of the road. it scared me when i tried to pluck a ripe pod,lol. there was a loud pop and seeds went flying everywhere. so you have to pick them slightly immature if you want to save them.

I was sick this season so I didn't get to keep the garden size I usually keep, but I do have a -very- limited amount of seed. I've already sourced over 1/2 of it locally. I have enough for 4-5 mailings of 4-5 seeds. I also have the spare postage from the earlier offer to send it out without a SASE. I'll hold 2 of these for ferret/bdan for a while.
