Some of the trumpet vines have yellow flowers and grow like crazy but they also can become very invasive. One of my first thoughts was the black-eyed susan vine but it probably wouldn't be hardy in your zone.

How about "Canary Bird Vine" I'm totally new at this, so I have no idea how well it would do in your area but this is what it looks like...

Black eyed susan vine also blooms yellow. I also grew the canary bird vine last summer. The bugs loved it so much that they killed it by mid summer but the susie did not seem to be bothered by insects.

I bought some canary vine seeds this year, and I automatically thought of them so the post as far as it being eaten by bugs I couldnt comment on but I will keep an eye on it and let you all know.

I had some relatives who are not veggie gardeners out one year and they were astounded at the beauty of large yellow pumpkin flowers. At least for this first season you could grow a mini or small pumpkin or squash (for pumpkins baby boo or jack be little - the fruits are so cute and would be pretty cool looking too). Papaya Pear squash vines are too long and prolific according to some of the gardeners on the veggie forum (such a problem!). Any of these vining veggies can be trained on a trellis.

If you're looking for a perennial vine, the pumpkin/squash or a yellow morning glory could fill in your first year as any perennial won't take off till next year.

yellow MGs do exist!!!

I have only very few seeds at the moment but if I my vines produce seed I'll inform you. There are (as far as I know) only two types pf yellow MGs, ipomoea ochracea(I have) and ipomoea obscura(I want BADLY)

One other you may want to consider is Carolina Jessamine (often called Carolina Jasmine, although it's not a jasmine). It's evergreen here in north Texas, might be in PA as well, not sure. Very delicate foliage, not aggressive at all and doesn't get out of control. It grows fairly quickly if it is given good soil and fertilized regularly.

Here it is considered a spring bloomer, mine started blooming in January and is just starting to slow down. When the vine gets 4 or 5 years old, it will also often bloom in the fall. Mine also blooms sporadically in the winter. Has a light fragrance - very nice.

Highly recommend this vine.

I've seen a yellow clematis. Sorry, I can't think of what kind it is.

I love those yellow nasturtiums. I have some yellow ones but they don't climb anything. I love that shade of yellow. To have a vine like that would be awesome.

Hi, everyone. I was on this forum last year, and am just now getting involved again. Not much ado in winter, you know.

Have you thought about the yellow bignonia. I don't think it is quite as aggressive as the trumpet vine, although it is in the same family. Plus, it will bloom all summer, unlike the carolina jessamine. The hummingbirds love the trumpet shaped flowers, and it is reasonably easy to control. I like the yellow mandevilla, but my garden buddy across the street grew it, and you would probably need several plants to cover the area you describe.

I forget who mentioned the yellow clematis, but it is clematis tangutica, with small nodding bell-shaped flowers. It is a very vigorous vine, too, but still not nearly as vigorous as the trumpets.

What about the Yellow Lady Banksia Rose> I don't know how tall your arbor is. But we had a tall white arbor and let it climb the arbor. I allowed it to trail all the way to the ground and the upper part to escape into the nearby giant Crepe Mytle. so before we had clouds of deep pink crepe myrtle flowers against the blue sky we had lovely cloud yellow Lady Banksia roses all over the tree. And the showers of yellow flowers trailing to the ground were a perfect setting to photograph all the little kids in their dressup clothes under the arbor in an old wicker chair.

the yellow clematis: clematis tangutica. i had one in a big vessel on the balcony but had to plant it out since the vessel still was not big enough after the plant reached the age of 3 years. it is well usable for your zone, blooms a lot and has fluffy seedheads and a lush growing habit. but i think it would not reach more than 3 meters in height.

so if your trellis is higher maybe you should think about planting a combination. for the "body" of the vine i would use a white flowering wisteria (blooms in may) und planted a meter apart the clematis tangutica (blooms from july till september). and if you cut back the clematis after the first frost or early in spring (cut all down to the height of your knees) you will have no problems with them two plants because they may well scramble together and rests of the cut-back clematis won't bother the wisteria.
