I'd suggest that you spring for some deeper soil volume containers, as 10 inches deep is pretty skimpy, and I imagine that they aren't all that wide either. This volume of soil will dry out pretty quickly unless you have these on automated drip irrigation. In such a situation, these planters will probably need watering twice a day for 3 to 5 minutes at a time to keep up with transpiration from sun and wind, and maybe just 3 minutes once every couple of days in winter. If you decide to stick with the wimpy sized planters, and especially if you can't provide automated drip irrigation, I would stay away from the more water loving vines. You might be better off with things that have more substantial waxy foliage like Bougainvillea. Star Jasmine, Pandorea jasminoides, Hardenbergia violacea 'Happy Wanderer', Tecomaria capensis or Macfadyena unguis-cati, all of which will tolerate more drought without looking stressed. I would tend to prefer a Passiflora which is not quite as rampant as P. coccinea, with P. 'Lavender Lady' being abit more manageable. For knock your socks off color, you might also consider Thnbergia alata or T. gregorii. In any case, all of these vines will do much better if your planters are more like 20 inches deep by at least 18 inches wide, or failing that, add soil water polymers to the soil mix to help it retain moisture. Roof top planters get more drying out from extra wind and reflected sun, and will really benefit from daily summer watering, maybe even twice a day, to look their best. Don't forget that you will have to ferilize more often to compensate for all that irrigation, and it will pay to use both a liquid fertilizer every few weeks in combination with a time release fertilizer such as Osmocote.

Virginia Creeper is self clinging so it will leave little sucker pads all over your walls if you let it climb the house. And it will not stop at the eaves. My home is stone, so no siding to worry about, and I have a similar vine, Parthenocissus henryana, climbing right up its 4 storeys. But every year, twice a year, we have to trim it to keep it off the eaves and prevent it from going under the roof tiles. In between we have to clip around the windows or it will cover them. Not only might it pull your gutters down, it will fill them with leaves in the autumn. All in all not a good idea. It is also quite likely imo to send tendrils into any vents the a/c unit might have. In summer when it's growing fast and we leave upstairs windows open ours will often come into the house and even hang on to the curtains if we don't keep a close eye on it.

I agree that it would be disasterous to have anything clinging to dry wall (plasterboard) directly. If your walls were all stone, concrete, cinderblock, or brick, that would be different. Some of the most popular "indoor" vines are pothos (which can cling to those bark-covered wood stakes and philodendron (eg., split leaf philos) that can similarly be trained against that type of support and can cling with aerial roots. These are common tropical understory plants that are adaptable to the low light and lower humidity of a typical indoors environment. The problem with plants like ivies indoors for climbing purposes is that they need alot of humidity around them and on any surface that they might be clinging to, which is do-able if they are in a hanging pot but more difficult if they are climbing up high in a house. and may need to be tied to the support. A pothos seems to be a bit more able to handle dry air than ivy (perhaps because it perhaps evolved in areas with distinct rainy/dry seasons). Other possible common indoors hangers/climbers would be hoyas. There are dozens of species and if given a support, they will go travelling (they are twiners)!

How wide is each panel? 3'? 4'? Remember when sizing your planter box that a larger box will have more even temperature and moisture, so the plants will be happier. Also, most plants in pots do best with a very dilute (way less than label directions) level of fertilizer each time you water. The folks on the container gardening forum can probably advise you as to good soil and amount of fertilizer and best box sizing. Not an annual, but I also like Mandevilla vine. It's a tropical perennial, so you would have to cut it way back and transplant to a smaller container to overwinter indoors unless you have a warm garage with a white window and the box is on wheels or you are willing to buy new each year. I can buy both Mandevilla and Thunbergia at local nurseries that emphasize annuals.
