Tuteur
Teach plants to grow with the latticed, pointed garden structure called a tuteur
The tuteur is a freestanding garden element with four latticed or open sides that reach a peak at the top. Tuteurs can be tall and narrow, like an obelisk, or short and squat, like a pyramid. The lattice on the sides provides a place for tendrils to catch on, and allowing vines to creep upward.
Tuteur is the French word for "tutor," meaning in this case that plants are taught where to grow. Tuteurs support a plant's growth much like the frame of an arbor or lattice does.
Low-growing plants get a boost with a tuteur to cling to, but even without plants, the tuteur is a striking vertical element in a garden.
This formal garden has oversize tuteurs in the background. Tall plants can provide screening for privacy.
Tuteurs can be suprisingly easy to build. Some found branches tied together with twine can form the basis of a sturdy tuteur for a tomato plant.
