Slugs

ran across this suggestion somewhere:

Slugs can't climb a slippery slope, & they can't crawl over sharp-edged material:

Coat the rims of pots & containers with a generous amount of petroleum jelly.

For in-the-ground plants, sprinkle sharp-edged material (sharp sand, coffee grounds, pine needles, horticultural DE but *not* swimming pool DE, etc) around the root area.

thought this might be handy for those who are getting into plants like hostas & other slug magnets.
