Anaerobic Pre-Composting

I harvested my first lot of vermicompost this week. Overall, I'm happy with the results, but the texture leaves a lot to be desired. Vegetables are disappearing without a problem but the cardboard is taking forever to decompose.

I was thinking about setting up an additional bin for pre-composting the materials for faster breakdown. I'm not sure if this would be worth it though.

My bins and everything related to them are in the basement. The pre-composting bin would also be down there, so it would need to be completely sealed to avoid fruit flies. My idea is basically to let the produce scraps, coffee grounds, cardboard, etc sit for at least a week in this "hot" pile environment then feed in small portions to the worms once it's nice and mushy.

Are there any potential problems with this?
